Build Your Safety Career With a Diverse, Growing Team

Are you a safety qualified who enjoys being in the field, working with tradespeople, and making a practical difference on the job site?

The Martech Group of Companies is looking for an energetic, motivated, and team-oriented Safety Coordinator to join our team based in Castlegar, BC.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to continue developing their career in occupational health and safety while gaining experience across a diverse range of trades, projects, and work environments.

Our group includes Martech Electrical, Martech Motor Winding, and Marwest Industries, providing electrical, motor rewind, structural steel fabrication and welding, and civil construction services to industrial, commercial, and residential clients throughout the Kootenays.

You'll work alongside a diverse group of skilled tradespeople, including Electricians, Powerline Technicians, Welders/Fabricators, Electric Motor Systems Technicians, Machinists, Industrial Painters, Carpenters, and Equipment Operators.

With operations in Castlegar, Fernie, and Cranbrook, no two days are necessarily the same.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Corporate Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator will play an active role in supporting and continually improving our occupational health and safety program.

This is not strictly an office-based safety position. You will have opportunities to work directly with employees, supervisors, clients, subcontractors, and management in both field and office environments.

You will help identify hazards, solve problems, support our crews, improve safety processes, and promote a positive safety culture across the Martech Group of Companies.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will include

- Conducting job-site safety inspections, hazard assessments, and follow-up reporting
- Supporting site safety planning, implementation, and ongoing monitoring
- Developing Safe Work Plans and other project-specific safety documentation
- Leading and facilitating site safety meetings and participating in morning tailboard meetings
- Developing safety meeting agendas, presentations, statistics, and safety topics
- Delivering job-site safety orientations
- Supporting incident and near-miss investigations, follow-up, and corrective actions
- Participating in workplace inspections and other safety investigations

- Identifying safety concerns and working professionally with employees and supervisors to bring issues to resolution
- Supporting the development and continual improvement of company safety policies, procedures, programs, and plans
- Participating in reviews and updates of the corporate Occupational Health & Safety Manual
- Supporting annual COR safety audits
- Coordinating employee safety training and maintaining training documentation
- Conducting respirator fit testing
- Inspecting, sourcing, and managing basic and specialized PPE
- Working with clients, vendors, subcontractors, supervisors, and employees on safety-related matters
- Maintaining client and third-party contractor management platforms
- Assisting with field safety documentation, tracking systems, and regulatory records
- Supporting tenders and bids through safety documentation and prequalification requirements
- Preparing professional reports, correspondence, and safety documentation
- Representing the company professionally with clients, workers, contractors, and other stakeholders

What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who can balance the technical side of occupational health and safety with the ability to communicate effectively with people in the field.

The ideal candidate is practical, approachable, organized, and comfortable working independently while remaining part of a collaborative team.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 2 years of relevant occupational health and safety experience
- Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC requirements, regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract
- Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

- A positive and practical approach to workplace safety
- Willingness to learn, grow, and take on new challenges

- NCSO designation/certificate
- Post-secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
- Leadership for Safety Excellence training
- COR Auditor certification
- Previous experience in electrical construction, civil construction, industrial maintenance, fabrication, welding, or a related trade environment
- Previous experience conducting incident investigations, inspections, respirator fit testing, or worker safety orientations

The Right Fit Technical knowledge is important, but we're also looking for someone who knows how to work with people.

You'll be successful in this role if you can:

- Build positive working relationships with employees and supervisors
- Coach and support workers rather than simply identify deficiencies
- Communicate professionally with clients, contractors, and management
- Recognize hazards and recommend practical solutions
- Work independently while knowing when to involve others
