RESPONSIBILITIES : Performs a variety of routine laboratory procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. - KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

- Retrieve specimens from Specimen Processing and prepare them for accessioning;
- Opens, separates, numbers and arranges Microbiology specimens for laboratory examination & processing;
- Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for processing specimens & for preparing & staining slides;
- Performs routine maintenance of laboratory equipment (daily/weekly/monthly) & documents the completion of each task on the appropriate form(s);
- Maintains confidential and accuracy of appropriate documents;
- Other duties as required/assigned; - SKILLED KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS : Knowledge




- Graduate of a Laboratory Technician program or equivalent previous experience.
- Medical terminology an asset.
- Experience working in Microbiology preferred.

Technical Skills

- Previous experience with accessioning & processing Microbiology specimens is an asset;
- Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment;
- Knowledge of Microbiology is an asset;

Social Processing Skills

- Ability to function in a quick-paced environment & take instruction from senior staff/ supervisor/ manager;
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a team environment is essential;
- Attention to detail is essential;
- Organizational skills are essential;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Experience in word processing preferred;
- Ability to work independently and within a group environment & be reliable/accountable for duties assigned;
