Shape Nova’s distributed systems and query engine as a Staff Software Engineer, optimizing performance, cost, and reliability at scale. Work spans up-to-date OLAP infrastructure.
The company is seeking an experienced systems engineer for its in-house OLAP engine, Nova. You will work across query planning, columnar storage, distributed compute, caching, and cloud infrastructure. The role includes technical leadership, design reviews, cross-team collaboration, and mentorship for a team of approximately 10 engineers.
Key Responsibilities: Build Nova query execution and distributed compute infrastructure
Design capabilities for warehouse-imported metrics, profiles, and dimensions
Optimize compute, storage, network, memory, latency, and throughput
Strengthen reliability, observability, capacity planning,



and rollout practices
Lead projects, design discussions, reviews, and engineering mentorship
Requirements: Seven or more years in backend or infrastructure engineering
Experience building analytical or OLAP systems
Distributed data systems depth and strong computer science fundamentals
Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, or equivalents
Proficiency in Java, C++, or Python
Apply distributed systems expertise, OLAP experience, and technical leadership to improve Nova’s performance, cost, and operational reliability.
