The Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders program is a one-time initiative designed to support institutions in attracting internationally based Early Career Researchers to Canada. Emerging Leaders will receive research funding and institutional support to advance transformative research in Canada’s strategic priority areas, build partnerships across sectors and borders, and translate their research into applications and impacts that benefit Canadians and the world.

The University Health Network (UHN) invites applications for an early career researcher to advance transformational research programs that support the growth of the Canadian economy in health, including biotechnology and advanced digital technologies.

Awards are valued at $100K per year over six years, with the possibility of extension for another six years. Only candidates who are internationally based (both working and residing outside of Canada) when the Research Chair is accepted are eligible. For this specific award, the acceptance date was October 9, 2026.

Expatriate Canadians wishing to relocate to Canada are encouraged to apply.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of October 2027. Appointments will be made to an appropriate UHN institute. The rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Emerging Leaders Awards are intended for exceptional emerging scholars. Candidates must be within five years (minus eligible delays) of the start date of their first research-related appointment, defined as an appointment where the individual has the autonomy to conduct research independently. All eligible delays in research (e.g., maternity, parental, medical, bereavement) are credited as twice the amount of time taken. Professional leaves (e.g., training, sabbatical, administrative) are not credited as eligible leaves.

The successful candidate will have established an independent program of research, with potential for impact through collaborations with, but not limited to,

the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Translational Science and Radiobiology and to generate translation and impacts.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence of an internationally competitive calibre, commensurate with their career stage, as demonstrated by a record of contributions or publications in leading journals in the field or a research pipeline that is at high international levels, presentations at significant conferences, accolades or awards, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing.

Applicants must include the following in their application package:

- A cover letter and two-page research proposal describing research plans for the position and highlighting the specific priority area(s) to which their research relates;
- Current curriculum vitae (CV) including a description of potential career interruptions, where applicable; and;
- A one-page plan describing actions that will be taken to promote inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility within their curriculum, training and/or research design methods, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of research findings and to ensure research outcomes are rigorous, relevant and accessible to diverse populations.

UHN recognizes that scholars have varying career paths and that career interruptions due to personal circumstances can be part of an excellent academic record. Nomination committee members have been instructed to give careful consideration to, and be sensitive to the impact of, career interruptions in their assessments.

UHN is strongly committed to diversity within its community and leading change towards an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible research environment.

We welcome applications from all groups who may contribute to diversity within our organization and strongly encourage applications from Indigenous Peoples, Black and racialized persons, women, persons with disabilities, and people of diverse sexual and gender identities.

UHN is a respectful, caring and inclusive workplace. We are committed to championing accessibility and equal prospect. Requests for accommodation can be made at any stage of the recruitment process, providing the applicant has met the bona fide requirements for the open position. Applicants can make their request for accommodations by contacting Anna Gordon at

As part of your application, you will be asked to complete a brief Diversity Survey. This survey is voluntary, but applicants are encouraged to self-identify in any of the groups, where applicable. Please note that any information directly related to you is confidential and cannot be accessed by search committees or People and Culture.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
