Cancor Transportation - A Division of CAC Recycling
Alberta
Cancor Transportation Inc. is the federally registered carrier for CAC Industrials, a family-owned scrap metal recycler serving the Greater Edmonton area from Acheson, Alberta. Cancor Transportation hauls scrap metal and containers on flat decks, step decks, Super Bs and container chassis, working to Cancor Transportation's safety program and federal carrier requirements.
WHY THIS ROLE
Cancor Transportation is hiring a Class 1 Driver to haul scrap metal and containers on flat decks, step decks, Super Bs and container chassis from its Acheson yard, with local runs and day runs to Fort McMurray. This is not a long-haul position, and dispatch plans change several times a day, so you need to adapt to that pace. This is year-round, full-time work for a professional driver with a clean record who inspects the truck, secures the load, finishes the paperwork and works independently.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Drive safely and legally. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and follow hours-of-service rules.
Haul scrap and containers. Run flat decks, step decks, Super Bs and container trailers, including manual and automatic shifts.
Secure every load. Use correct securement and confirm weight and legal limits.
Pick up and deliver efficiently. Coordinate with dispatch, yard operators and customers, and keep to the schedule.
Keep accurate records. Complete logs, tickets, repair notes and travel details every day.
Look after the truck. Keep equipment clean and report defects early.
WHAT YOU BRING
The ability to adapt:
dispatch plans change several times a day, and you keep the runs moving
Valid Class 1 licence and 5+ years of experience
5-year clean driving record and a current abstract
Load securement certification
Knowledge of industry safety rules, vehicle maintenance and traffic regulations
Excellent organization and time management; good communication skills and English
Patience and professionalism: sometimes jobs take longer than planned
Comfort with local runs and day runs to Fort McMurray; this is not a long-haul position
Report fit for duty, free from impairment by alcohol, cannabis, drugs or fatigue, and meet customer site access requirements, including drug and alcohol testing where a site requires it.
GREAT TO HAVE
Oversized load experience
Scrap, flat deck, step deck or Super B experience
Site tickets (ISN, Avetta, ComplyWorks), first aid or WHMIS
WHAT YOU GET
$28 to $35 per hour, based on experience
Paid overtime is a benefit of the position: shifts often run 30 minutes to 1 hour past the scheduled finish
Group benefits after a 3-month probation period
Year-round work with a set shift
A qualified, safety-focused fleet and a path to higher pay as verified skills grow
HOW WE HIRE
Phone screen, in-person interview with a run-planning exercise, abstract and reference checks, and offer. We check references with your most recent supervisors and look closely at your record, how you finish runs and how you take feedback.
