Job Title: Mechanical CAD Designer

Job Description
This role focuses on converting existing Siemens NX 3D mechanical CAD models into STEP (.stp/.step) files to support downstream engineering and manufacturing activities. You will work closely with mechanical engineers to ensure accurate data transfer, maintain organized CAD file structures, and help enable efficient communication and collaboration across engineering and production teams.

Responsibilities

Work with existing 3D mechanical CAD models in Siemens NX and other CAD tools as needed. Convert and export Siemens NX part and assembly files into STEP (.stp/.step) formats for engineering and manufacturing use. Review converted models to verify that geometry, features, and assemblies transfer accurately into STEP format. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve basic issues that arise during the CAD file conversion process. Validate 3D geometry after conversion to ensure it meets project and quality requirements.

Organize, label, and manage original and converted CAD files in accordance with project standards and data management practices. Collaborate with mechanical engineering and manufacturing teams to clarify requirements and address any CAD-related questions. Maintain clear documentation of conversion processes, file versions, and any issues encountered during conversion. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with Siemens NX or other professional 3D CAD software.

Proficiency working with 3D mechanical parts and assemblies in a CAD environment. Demonstrated ability to export or convert CAD models to STEP/STP file formats. Ability to review and validate 3D geometry and assemblies after conversion for accuracy and completeness. Strong attention to detail when handling complex CAD models and file structures.



Solid file and data management skills to maintain organized CAD libraries and project folders. General mechanical design and mechanical engineering understanding to interpret CAD models correctly.

Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoCAD or similar platforms. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience collaborating with mechanical engineering and manufacturing teams on CAD-related tasks. Familiarity with multiple CAD systems (for example, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD) and their export workflows. Ability to follow established engineering standards and naming conventions for parts and assemblies. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple CAD files and conversion tasks simultaneously. Effective communication skills to discuss technical CAD issues and resolution steps with team members.

Work Environment

You will work in office as part of a small, focused team of approximately four mechanical engineers. The environment is collaborative and engineering-driven, with daily interaction around 3D mechanical design, CAD data, and file conversion tasks. Work centers on professional CAD software such as Siemens NX and may involve other tools like SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoCAD. The setting supports close cooperation with engineering and manufacturing stakeholders to ensure accurate and reliable CAD data for downstream use.

& Location This is a Contract position based out of Kanata, ON. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00
- $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
