Shape complex transactions for EDC’s Canadian business mandate through corporate lending expertise, legal documentation, and critical thinking.

Export Development Canada is hiring a Lead Counsel for its approximately 30-lawyer Legal Services group. This permanent position supports origination and back-office activities across corporate lending, including project finance. The successful lawyer will also advise other legal and business areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
Handle transaction development, structuring, negotiation, and documentation
Manage waivers, consents, and amendments for financing products
Provide advice on EDC rights, obligations, and internal policies
Interpret the Export Development Act and related statutes
Collaborate proactively with legal and business teams

Requirements:
Law degree and Canadian bar licensure
Seven or ten years of relevant legal experience
Working knowledge of legal services principles and practices
Solid creative and critical thinking skills
Robust influencing, negotiation, and relationship management skills

Use advanced legal analysis, commercial judgment, and negotiation skills to support EDC’s lending and investment activities.
