Automate Glass

Gainer Industrial

About us

Automate Glass builds business software for the auto glass industry. Our platform handles quoting, scheduling, inventory, purchasing, invoicing and customer messaging. Shops, mobile technicians, online retail customers and wholesale customers use it every day.

About the role

This is a new position on our established development team. We are looking for a senior .NET developer. You will work mainly on the backend: an ASP.NET Core Web API and a SQL Server database on Azure, with Angular front-end applications. AI tools are a regular part of how we work.

The platform is multi-tenant. One system serves several separate businesses, called tenants, and keeps each one's data apart. The codebase is large. Part of it has moved to a newer target architecture and part has not, and both run side by side. You will own features from the first conversation with the business through release and support. You will also help make the platform cleaner, safer and better tested.

What you will do

- Design, build, test and release features in the backend API and database.
- Work directly with operations staff, product owners and testers to turn business needs into small, safe releases.
- Keep the API secure and keep each tenant's data separate.
- Find and fix slow queries and data-access code.
- Write integration tests that check how business features behave.
- Build and maintain scheduled jobs and connections to outside services, such as accounting, text messaging, reporting and AI services, so that they recover cleanly from failures.
- Coordinate API changes with the front-end applications so that users are not affected.
- Solve production issues, review other developers' code and help set team standards.
- Use AI coding assistants and AI agents as a regular part of your work, including coding, testing, code review and documentation.

What you bring

- 5 or more years of professional software development, mostly with C# and .NET in production.
- Strong skills in C#, ASP.NET Core Web API and object-oriented design.
- Strong skills with Entity Framework Core and SQL Server, including reading query plans and tuning T-SQL.
- Experience with multi-tenant systems and with keeping tenant data separate.
- Experience with domain-driven design and with event-driven systems, where related data is updated shortly after a change instead of in the same step (eventual consistency).
- Experience writing automated tests that cover business behaviour, not only single classes, for example with xUnit and Moq.
- A solid understanding of API security: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, access tokens and authorization rules.
- Experience with background jobs and third-party APIs, including retries, idempotency, rate limits and partial failures.
- Clear communication in English, including explaining technical trade-offs to people who are not technical.

Nice to have (you do not need all of these)

- Experience with a modular monolith: one application split into well-separated modules.
- Azure experience: App Service, WebJobs, Blob and Queue Storage, Key Vault, App Configuration and Application Insights.
- Experience with Quartz.NET, MediatR, Dapper or Duende IdentityServer.
- Enough Angular and TypeScript to read front-end code and judge the impact of API changes.
- Experience with business systems such as ERP, order management,

inventory or CRM.
- Experience with Power BI or reporting data pipelines.
- Experience using AI coding assistants or AI agents in your work.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Your first year

- By 3 months: you know the main business workflows and have released your first changes to production.
- By 6 months: you own features from requirements to release and review other developers' code.
- By 12 months: you are the main technical owner of at least one major area of the platform

Work details

- Location: Edmonton, Alberta is preferred. We agree the work arrangement with you during hiring: usually hybrid for candidates in Edmonton, and remote for candidates elsewhere in Canada.
- Regular meetings with colleagues in time zones around the world.
- Occasional work outside regular hours for urgent production issues or planned releases.
- Travel is less than 5% of the time and may include the United States. A valid passport is needed.
- You will report to the Vice President, Information Technology.

Pay and benefits

- Base salary: $120,000- $150,000
- Health and dental coverage.
