Multidisciplinary Medical Surgical Rehabilitation and Pain Management Centre

Hamilton, Ontario

Independent Contractor

Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications; negotiable

The opportunity

Our multidisciplinary medical, surgical, rehabilitation, and pain management centre is seeking a skilled, motivated, and patient-focused chiropractor to join our established multidisciplinary healthcare team in Hamilton. We are looking for a clinician who combines strong assessment and hands-on treatment skills with active rehabilitation, sound clinical judgment, and clear communication.

Our clinic operates within a modern, 16,000-square-foot medical facility, offering collaboration with medical, surgical, and pain management specialists, family physicians, neurologists, orthopaedic specialists, chronic and acute care specialists, physiotherapists, registered massage therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals.

You will support patients with musculoskeletal conditions, motor vehicle accident injuries, workplace injuries, sports injuries, persistent pain, and complex rehabilitation needs. Participation in concussion care will reflect your training, competence, and professional scope.

Clinical responsibilities

· Assess patients holistically, considering their musculoskeletal condition, medical history, functional abilities, daily activities, work demands, personal goals, and psychosocial or environmental barriers. Recognize red flags, contraindications, and referral needs.

· Develop individualized plans that combine appropriate manual therapy with therapeutic exercise, progressive strengthening, mobility work, graded activity, and practical home programs.

· Provide joint mobilization, manipulation, and soft-tissue treatment when clinically indicated, including gentle alternatives that respect patient preferences and contraindications.

· Explain findings, expected benefits, material risks, alternatives, and the option to decline treatment; obtain and document informed consent, including for cervical manipulation.

· Set individualized goals to help patients reach their maximum functional ability, improve independence and quality of life, and participate in meaningful activities. Measure outcomes, reassess progress, modify ineffective treatment, and plan for discharge or self-management.

· Educate patients about their condition, pacing, injury prevention, ergonomics, and return to daily activity, sport, and work without creating unnecessary fear of movement.

· Coordinate care with physicians, physiotherapists, massage therapists, and other providers through clear communication and shared goals, avoiding unnecessary duplication of services.

· Assess gait, mobility, and assistive-device needs; prescribe appropriate assistive devices, orthotics, and braces as part of the treatment plan within professional scope and applicable payer requirements. Coordinate referral when additional expertise or authorization is needed, and support safe use and follow-up.

MVA WSIB and other payer requirements

Demonstrated experience treating patients with motor vehicle accident (MVA) and workplace injury (WSIB) claims is required. Candidates must also have experience working with other third-party payers and their specific clinical, documentation, reporting, and authorization requirements.

· Assess injury-related impairments and functional limitations, document clinical findings and recovery barriers, and develop measurable rehabilitation and return-to-work goals.

· Prepare accurate, timely assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, reassessments, and discharge reports that meet the applicable payer or program requirements.

· Demonstrate working knowledge of Ontario automobile insurance rehabilitation processes, including HCAI and applicable OCF forms, and WSIB care pathways, forms, and reporting requirements relevant to the role.

· Confirm applicable referral, eligibility, authorization, visit or funding limits, reporting deadlines, and treatment-extension requirements with administrative staff before proceeding as required.

· Communicate professionally with adjusters, case managers, employers, and other authorized parties, with appropriate consent and respect for privacy.

· Provide clear clinical rationale for recommended care and coordinate with administrative staff on accurate billing, supporting records, and responses to payer inquiries.

· Keep current with changing payer requirements and maintain clinical independence: treatment recommendations must reflect patient need and documented progress.

Required qualifications and qualities

· Doctor of Chiropractic degree from an accredited institution, current registration in good standing with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, and valid skilled liability insurance.

· Demonstrated MVA and WSIB patient-care experience, plus experience managing the requirements of other third-party payers, such as extended health benefit insurers or rehabilitation funders.

· Strong musculoskeletal assessment, manual therapy, exercise prescription, and rehabilitation planning skills.

· An evidence-informed approach that uses imaging and passive modalities selectively when clinically justified and avoids unsupported claims or predetermined prolonged treatment plans.

· Sound judgment about when to treat, modify care, refer, or arrange urgent medical assessment, including for patients with complex histories or bone-health concerns.

· A compassionate, respectful communication style, shared decision-making, and commitment to helping patients build confidence and independence.

· Reliable attendance, timely EMR documentation, professional boundaries, and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team.

· Commitment to ongoing learning,

measurable patient outcomes, ethical practice development, and constructive feedback.

Additional qualifications that are assets

· Experience in persistent pain rehabilitation, sports injuries, older-adult care, and functional return-to-work planning.

· Additional concussion training, such as SHIFT Concussion Management or comparable education, with competence in cervical assessment and rehabilitation. Vestibular assessment or treatment requires relevant demonstrated training.

· Experience with gait assessment, custom-made foot orthotics, and custom knee bracing, including clinically appropriate prescribing and payer documentation.

· Additional training in shockwave therapy or acupuncture, with the ability to explain condition-specific evidence, indications, limitations, and consent requirements.

· Experience building effective referral relationships and collaborating with family physicians, neurologists, orthopaedic specialists, and rehabilitation teams.

Candidates earlier in their careers are welcome to apply if they meet the required clinical and MVA, WSIB, and other payer experience requirements, including relevant supervised clinical experience.
