In this role you will: Month-end closing accounting activities and monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts Review and prepare monthly journal entries and reports to support month-end departmental deadlines Review and maintain monthly reconciliations for various assigned key control accounts Supervise monthly G/L lead sheet attestation while identifying, investigating and resolving variances as required from Regulatory and Compliance department Responsible for the maintenance of expense allocations Review and validate invoices received from various departments (Market Data, IT&S; Finance, Real Estate, etc.) and supervise the allocation of the charges.
Review and verify the expense allocations to the relevant G/L accounts and post the journal entries in General Ledger application systems (People
Soft 8.9 or 9.2) Approve for payment in Smart
Buy: invoices received from various departments (Market Data, Voice, Real Estate, etc.) Review Reconciliations prepared by Sr.
Analyst for intercompany accounts; analyze and resolve differences Oversee payroll settlements with the Parent Bank for SCI (Global Banking and Markets and iTrade) Review and post the bi-weekly payroll entries based on SAP HR Interface Load from the payroll department; approve payments’ review and explicit balances in payroll control accounts Direct Montreal Exchange Futures billings reports Review and approve weekly profit and loss reports to Product Control team for Montreal Exchange Futures to support the comparison of actual results with estimates Oversee the monthly billings of trades to other financial institutions acting as agents for clients Review and verify the payments for monthly billings, and the reconciliation of the billing accounts prepared by Senior Analyst Provide financial information,
analyses and other support as required by senior management Support other entities within SFAR for monthly and quarterly reporting processes Identify value-add opportunities, and the potential impact of changes/initiatives; provide feedback or recommendations Communicate with both internal and external auditors to explain various procedures and respond to queries Participate in ad-hoc financial projects as assigned Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have: Requires equivalent of a university degree and Professional Accounting designation such as CPA along with minimum 5 years of post-university working experience in an investment or financial institution industry and 1-2 years of people leadership experience.
Solid background in accounting is essential to comprehend, interpret and compile complex projects, together with proven organizational skills.
Flexibility to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines and quickly grasp and work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior internal stakeholders and external professional practitioners.
Strong PC skills and working knowledge of various operating systems used in the day-to-day operations of a Finance Department (People
Soft Financials, Broadridge, OBI, Smart
View, Excel, Microsoft Office) A focus on process improvement and efficiency initiatives would be an asset.
