Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 131,100.00 - 165,800.00
Position Highlights
BC Hydro’s dams, generation stations, transmission lines, substations, and distribution network work together to deliver
safe, reliable power to our customers. In this role, you will help shape how we manage these assets over their life cycle so
they keep delivering value to our customers.
As a member of the Asset Management Program team, your focus will be on the direction of asset management, where we
are going & why (strategic to tactical approaches). We work closely with various groups to advance asset management and
asset health processes and maturity, including the Asset Management Practices & Standards team (focused on how we will
get there, the tactical to operational aspects) and the Asset Planning teams (responsible for the various asset portfolios).
What you'll do
- Improve and oversee the Power System asset management program: its approach, strategies, governance, and
frameworks. Develop ideas into strategies and processes; create content, training, and other materials; assist teams in
developing and implementing content specific to their asset portfolios.
- Develop Power System asset health programs: establish strategies, drive improvements, maintain governance, and report
on asset health to senior management to support investment decisions aligned with corporate priorities and regulatory
requirements.
- Support the Asset Management Steering Committee and the Asset Management and Asset Health Working Groups.
- Work collaboratively across teams such as Asset Planning, Operations, Project Delivery, and Finance to ensure asset
management and asset health programs are well-managed and supported.
- Provide expert advice and solutions to address complex queries related to asset management and asset health,
collaborating with other experts and stakeholders as needed to ensure well-informed responses. This includes planning,
implementing, and achieving asset management, asset health, and related goals and business strategies as well as
supporting regulatory processes by preparing documentation and evidence related to Power System asset management
and asset health programs.
- Represent BC Hydro in industry forums such as CEATI and the Institute of Asset Management, sharing knowledge and
bringing best practices back to the team.
What you bring
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, commerce, finance, economics, or a closely related field, or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible roles in strategy, business process management, and decision-making. This
experience should reflect a proven ability to address increasingly complex challenges and deliver impactful results. It should
also include at least 6 years working with power system assets, physical asset management, capital planning, asset health,
and/or project management. Experience in infrastructure, capital-intensive, or technically complex systems is preferred.
Candidates with less experience may be considered at a corresponding position level.
- Strong analysis skills: Critical thinking and analytical skills enable you to gather, evaluate, and synthesize information from
a variety of sources then transform data into information with recommendations to support high-quality decisions.
- Leadership and relationship management:
Able to establish credibility and rapport with senior management, subject
matter experts, and key stakeholders across the organization. Able to exercise sound judgment in presenting issues,
provide leadership, and course correct.
- Comfortable exercising independent judgment in analysis and problem solving on highly complex, undefined, critical, and
broad scope problems with management guidance. Able to manage multiple processes and initiatives with competing
deadlines while maintaining a proactive approach to adapting to shifting priorities and organizational requirements.
- Strategic thinking complemented by an ability to align tactical decisions with long-term organizational objectives. Able to
consider future needs and strategies as well as practical tactics and implementation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts in clear and accessible
terms. Adept at preparing professional reports, presentations, and documentation tailored to both technical and non-
technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to foster teamwork, resolve conflicts, and build enduring
relationships with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Familiarity with asset management strategies and/or power system asset health programs (e.g., BC Hydro’s Asset Health
Index and Equipment Health Rating programs or similar programs) is an advantage. Additionally, prior experience providing
strategic business advice, particularly in capital-intensive or regulated environments, is desirable.
- Proven proficiency in improving business processes to drive operational excellence and organizational efficiency.
