Well hello there. This wont be the traditional job posting, but I think it may interest some of you. I currently work at the Atikokan Progress, a small local newspaper based in Atikokan, Ontario. We are one of the last locally owned newspapers in Ontario, and the man who has been running it for 30 years is set to retire soon. I was considering taking it over from him, but due to several factors in my life pulling me back to where I am from, I will not be able to continue here. So, we are looking for someone else. Here are the basic details:
- We are a weekly Newspaper, printed on Wednesdays. We have been active since 1950.
- You must be willing to live and work in Northwestern Ontario, which is pretty remote. We can help you find housing.
- You are the sole full time employee on the editorial team. Our other two employees work on the printing side, advertising, and accounting. This means that you will be in charge or planning stories, interviewing, and laying out each week. You will be trained by the current owner.
It is a lot of fun, though challenging at times!
- Ability to make your own hours and schedule. We are extremely flexible. So long as the paper gets done each week, you have freedom to plan your own days.
- Ideally, we would want someone with an educational background in journalism, but this is not necessary. So long as you are familiar with journalistic standards, and have some writing experience.
- Pay is $3500 a month. Obviously not extremely high. They always say that this is a job you do because you love it
- We are looking for someone who can take over for at least the year of 2027. You do not need to commit the rest of your life to this newspaper. But, perhaps you will fall in love with the town once you move here.
