About South Peace Community Resources Society

SPCRS is a nonprofit community social services organization serving the South Peace region. Our programs include counselling and victim services, specialized housing, children and family services, and community advocacy — all built around the belief that everyone deserves support, dignity, and a chance to thrive.

About the Role

As the Safehouse Coordinator in Tumbler Ridge, you'll plan, implement, and oversee the day-to-day activities of our Safehouse program and its volunteers. Reporting to the Department Director of Women’s Safety & Transition Services, you'll offer supportive counselling, referrals, and advocacy to women who are survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and emotional abuse, and help shape the program through development, policy, and evaluation work.

The work can involve extreme crisis and traumatic situations, so we're looking for someone who brings empathy, good boundaries, and a person-centred, feminist-informed approach.

What You'll Do

- Oversee day-to-day program operations, making sure facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are followed, and program standards and licensing requirements are met

- Recruit, orient, train, monitor, and support program volunteers

- Establish and maintain the Safe House program

- Provide supportive counselling to women and their children who have experienced abuse, and make appropriate referrals

- Accompany women to safe house locations in the community, or transport them to other communities when needed or requested

- Help arrange longer-term housing solutions

- Develop and implement short-term case plans that meet the needs of each service recipient

- Make recommendations to the Department Manager on program development, policies and procedures, and program evaluation

- Work with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate services, facilitate referrals, and represent the program at external events

- Maintain records and statistics needed to monitor program delivery and evaluation

- Provide information and documentation for reports, including mid-year and year-end evaluations

- Other related duties as assigned by the Department Director

What You Bring

- A diploma in a related human or social service field and two years of recent, related experience, including one year of supervision or administration experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good public presentation skills

- Good problem-solving, organization, and motivation skills

- The ability to work independently and as part of a team

- The ability to work with people of diverse ages, cultures, and personal situations

- Empathetic listening and support skills, tact and diplomacy, and a sensitive, non-judgmental attitude

- A strong understanding of and commitment to feminist-informed practice, and a person-centred, practical approach

- The capacity to work in extreme crisis and traumatic situations

- Good boundaries and self-care practices

- Cultural awareness

- A high degree of ethical and professional conduct, and a willingness to work flexible hours

- A working knowledge of Excel, Word, and email programs

- Valid Class 5 BC driver's licence

Why You'll Love Working Here

- Meaningful work supporting the safety of women and children in Tumbler Ridge

- Union wages and protections under the BCGEU/CSSEA Collective Agreement

- A supportive, collaborative team environment
