POSITION SUMMARY

The Lift Coordinator is responsible for the safe preparation, lifting, movement, and precise positioning of modular homes and large building components using cranes and specialized rigging equipment. This role requires proven experience with crane-supported lifting operations and specialized heavy lifts, with a strong understanding of load securement, rigging configurations, lifting procedures, and construction-site safety.

Working closely with crane operators, supervisors, and construction crews, the Lift Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring modular structures are lifted, transported, and positioned safely and accurately. The successful candidate must demonstrate sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship. Crane operation is an asset but is not a requirement for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Heavy-lift operations: Plan and execute rigging activities for modular homes, oversized building components, and other heavy materials in coordination with crane operators and site supervisors.
- Load preparation & rigging: Select and configure appropriate slings, shackles, lifting points, and other rigging equipment to support safe, balanced, and controlled lifts.
- Lift planning & assessment: Review lift plans and load information, identify potential hazards, and assess site access, overhead obstructions, ground conditions, and other factors affecting lifting operations.
- Crane coordination: Work closely with crane operators to coordinate lifting sequences, maintain clear communication, and ensure loads are moved in a controlled and predictable manner.
- Signalling & communication: Direct crane movements using recognized hand signals or radio communications and maintain clear communication throughout each lift.
- Modular home placement: Guide and assist with the precise positioning of modular homes and building components, ensuring proper alignment and coordination with the installation crew.

- Rigging equipment inspection: Inspect rigging gear before use, identify damaged or unsuitable equipment, and ensure defective equipment is removed from service and reported appropriately.
- Load control: Use taglines and other appropriate control measures to help prevent load rotation, swinging, or unintended movement during lifting operations.
- Load securement & transportation: Assist with preparing and securing modular structures and oversized components for transport, where required, in accordance with applicable requirements and company procedures.
- Safety compliance: Follow approved lift plans, company safety policies, site-specific procedures, and applicable occupational health and safety requirements. Stop work and report unsafe conditions when necessary.
- Site coordination: Collaborate with supervisors, crane operators, truck drivers, and installation crews to ensure lifting activities are completed efficiently and without compromising safety.
- Equipment care: Maintain rigging tools and equipment in good working condition and report maintenance, inspection, or replacement requirements.
- Additional duties: Assist with related material-handling and construction activities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

- Proven, hands-on experience with mobile crane and rigging operations, including specialized heavy lifts, is required.
- Experience rigging and positioning modular homes, oversized structures, or large building components is strongly preferred.
- Valid Class 3 driver's licence or higher is required. A valid Class 1 licence is preferred.
- Strong understanding of rigging equipment, lifting configurations, load distribution, load securement, and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to interpret lift plans, follow technical instructions, identify hazards,

and recognize when a lift requires further assessment.
- Experience coordinating with crane operators during complex lifting and positioning operations.
- Knowledge of applicable construction safety requirements and safe work practices.
- Relevant rigging, crane signalling, heavy-lift, or lifting-equipment training and certifications are considered assets.
- Crane operator certification and operating experience are assets but are not mandatory.
- Robust communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset.
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to work effectively as part of a coordinated construction crew.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including handling rigging equipment and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel between job sites throughout Greater Saint John and surrounding areas.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position involves working on active construction sites across Greater Saint John and surrounding areas. Duties include outdoor work in varying weather conditions, handling rigging equipment, and working around cranes, heavy vehicles, suspended loads, and large modular structures. The role requires awareness of changing site conditions, adherence to established safety procedures, and the consistent use of required personal protective equipment, including CSA-approved safety footwear.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to specialized modular construction projects while continuing to develop expertise in heavy-lift rigging, crane coordination, and the safe placement of modular structures. Additional training and qualifications may be pursued in line with operational requirements and the employee's experience and career goals.
