Warehouse Maintenance Worker | Food Inspection Facility | Mississauga
Salary: $27.09 per hour + 4% vacation pay, paid weekly
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with on-call availability for emergencies outside scheduled hours
Start date: November 16, 2026
Location: Mississauga, ON L5L 0B2
About the role
We are hiring one Maintenance Worker for a brand-new food product inspection facility in Mississauga. This is the first Canadian site for a US company, and you will be the only maintenance person on site, reporting directly to the Plant Supervisor.
This is an industrial maintenance role in a warehouse environment. You will be responsible for conveyors, dock equipment, electric forklifts and refrigeration systems, and you will document everything under food safety audit standards.
You will be trained by the company’s Director of Maintenance on their standards and checklists, and the Plant Supervisor has a strong maintenance background, so you will not be on your own while you learn the site.
If you like owning a building end to end, from preventive maintenance on production equipment to the floor scrubber, this is that job.
Equipment and industrial systems
- Carry out preventive maintenance on manual and motor-driven roller conveyors feeding the inspection lines.
- Maintain dock doors and levelers, and coordinate certified contractors for major repairs.
- Maintain electric forklifts, including battery watering, and operate a forklift to move equipment.
- Monitor the cooler and refrigerated (reefer) trailers in the yard, and report issues to the appropriate contractor.
- Clean and maintain the wrap machine per the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Operate the ride-on floor scrubber for deep cleaning per the quarterly checklist.
- Apply lockout/tagout procedures before working on any equipment.
- Inspect and troubleshoot building systems, including ventilation, and verify that fire alarms and other safety systems are working.
Note:
the X-ray and CT inspection systems are serviced by the company engineers and the manufacturer. You will perform basic preventive maintenance around them but will not work on internal components or software.
Compliance and documentation
- Keep accurate maintenance inspection records and end-of-shift reports. This documentation is a requirement, not an extra.
- Work under GMP and food safety standards, including SQF, BRCGS and CFIA requirements, with customer audits throughout the year.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts.
- Coordinate with outside contractors for HVAC, electrical, refrigeration and the CT inspection equipment.
Building and grounds
- Walk the building daily to catch repairs and safety issues early.
- Complete plumbing repairs: leaks, clogged drains, faucets, toilets and fixtures.
- Perform minor electrical work: light bulbs, ballasts, switches and outlets.
- Complete minor carpentry and finishing work: drywall patching, painting, locks and hardware.
- Perform general cleaning duties: dusting, mopping and removing trash.
- Maintain the grounds, including shovelling and salting walkways in winter.
What you need
- Current forklift (lift truck) certification for sit-down counterbalance.
- Minimum 2 years in facilities, building or industrial maintenance. Warehouse, manufacturing or food production experience strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance and lockout/tagout on powered equipment.
- Hands-on experience with plumbing, electrical or HVAC systems.
- Comfortable keeping written maintenance records. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
- Able to stand for long periods, bend, twist, push, pull and reach, and lift up to 40 lb (18 kg) unassisted.
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather, including winter snow clearing.
- Available for on-call emergency support outside of scheduled hours.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Considered an asset
- Experience in a food plant or GMP workplace.
- Basic knowledge of roller conveyors.
