AI Automation & Business Systems Manager - Ecommerce
Remote | Long-term contract
About Bathify & Haum:
Bathify and Haum are ecommerce businesses serving customers across Canada and the United States in bathroom, kitchen, furniture, lighting, and home products.
We’re hiring someone to own the systems and automations that improve how our businesses operate, support better decisions, and reduce recurring manual work.
You’ll work directly with the founder and collaborate with our operations, catalog, customer service, accounting, and marketing teams. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with ownership of the automation roadmap.
The role:
- You’ll identify opportunities, understand the underlying processes and data, recommend practical solutions, and personally build, test, document, and maintain them.
- Your work will span reporting, data quality, systems integration, and operational workflows across multiple Shopify stores.
- You should be comfortable turning a business problem into a reliable system, asking the right questions, explaining tradeoffs, and taking responsibility for the result.
What you’ll own:
- Assess existing workflows and prioritize improvements based on business value, implementation effort, and ongoing maintenance.
- Build reliable reporting across commercial and operational data.
- Develop automated data-quality checks and actionable exception reporting.
- Improve product-data workflows and catalog consistency.
- Build integrations between Shopify, reporting, accounting, customer support, and other business systems.
- Apply AI where it improves outcomes, supported by conventional code and calculations where accuracy and consistency matter.
- Implement testing, appropriate permissions, review checkpoints, logging, failure alerts, and recovery procedures.
- Maintain clear data boundaries and business rules across stores and markets.
- Keep code, workflows, documentation, and system access organized within company-owned accounts.
- Train team members and measure results through time saved, errors reduced, adoption, and operating improvements.
- Build and maintain custom Shopify apps, integrations, and internal tools that address business needs.
- Evaluate existing apps and identify opportunities to replace functionality with company-owned solutions where the economics and reliability justify it.
- Own testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance of custom solutions, including validating replacement functionality before retiring existing apps.
What we’re looking for:
- 4+ years of relevant experience in software development, systems integration, technical operations, or business-process automation.
- Examples of production systems you personally built, deployed, and maintained.
- Strong Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript skills, plus practical SQL experience.
- Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, and data transformation.
- Experience with n8n, Make, or a comparable automation platform.
- Practical experience integrating LLM APIs into business workflows and evaluating their outputs.
- Shopify integration experience and familiarity with ecommerce operations.
- Ability to reconcile data from multiple sources, validate calculations, and handle incomplete or inconsistent inputs.
- Clear written and spoken English,
including the ability to explain technical decisions to nontechnical colleagues.
- Strong ownership, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while raising issues early.
Helpful additional experience
- Financial reporting or accounting-system integrations.
- Shipping, inventory, supplier, or product-information workflows.
- Git, cloud deployment, monitoring, and automated testing.
- Reporting, collaboration, and customer-support platforms.
Working arrangement:
This is a remote, long-term contract opportunity with an expected commitment of approximately 40 hours per week.
You must be available for at least three hours of overlap with Toronto business hours, Monday to Friday. The exact schedule will be agreed before starting.
Compensation is US$3,000-4,000 per month, depending on relevant experience and demonstrated capability.
Initial priorities:
During your first 90 days, you’ll assess existing workflows, agree on a prioritized roadmap, deliver helpful automations, and establish monitoring and documentation. Specific deliverables will be agreed based on business priorities, available data, and system access.
How to apply:
Please submit your résumé and include:
1. Two examples of business systems or automations you personally built. Explain the problem, your contribution, how you tested and maintained the solution, and the result.
2. A short walkthrough or screenshots of one system, with confidential information removed. Shortlisted candidates may provide this after the initial application.
3. Your country, time zone, availability, and expected monthly compensation.
Shortlisted candidates will complete a paid practical assessment using sample or de-identified business data. We’ll evaluate accuracy, problem-solving, maintainability, and communication.
