Overview

Under the direction of the Supervisor/Designate, the Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe child care environment during operational hours while children, families, and staff are present. All duties are performed in a manner that minimizes disruption to programming and ensures the health, safety, and well-being of children in accordance with Regional Health Unit guidelines, the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), and centre policies.

Qualifications

- Ontario High School Diploma
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid and current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Valid and current Secure Food Handling Certificate.
- Up-to-date immunizations as required by Niagara Region Public Health.
- Ability to meet all requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).

Duties

· Sanitation and Safety

o Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, light switches, tables, washrooms) throughout the day in accordance with Health Unit schedules.

o Clean and sanitize washrooms, eating areas, and sleep areas while ensuring children are not exposed to cleaning chemicals.

o Use only approved cleaning products and follow proper dilution, labeling, and storage procedures.

o Ensure all cleaning activities are conducted safely and discreetly to avoid disruption to children’s routines.

· Health and Safety Compliance

o Comply with all Health and Safety regulations, Regional Health Unit guidelines, and centre policies.





o Safely store all cleaning and toxic materials in locked or designated areas at all times.

o Immediately address spills, bodily fluids, and other health or safety hazards using approved infection-control procedures.

o Report unsafe conditions, maintenance concerns, or damaged equipment promptly to the Supervisor/Designate.

o Discard broken or unsafe items and request replacements as needed.

· Laundry and Supplies

o Assist with daily laundry, including bedding, cloths, and cleaning materials, following Health Unit guidelines.

o Monitor cleaning and sanitation supplies and inform the Supervisor/Designate of inventory needs.

· Equipment and Environment

o Clean and maintain appliances and cleaning equipment according to manufacturer instructions and safety standards.

o Maintain storage areas in compliance with Health and Safety regulations.

o Work collaboratively with the Supervisor/Designate to implement any changes or directives from the Health Unit.

· Professional Responsibilities

o Attend required training related to sanitation, infection prevention, and workplace safety as directed.

o Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

o Perform other related duties as assigned.

Pay: $21.50 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
