Barney Printing, a division of The Aylmer Express is a locally owned and operated commercial printer with a proud history of excellence in quality, service and community focus. We are seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined person to join our print production team. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
Previous printing or bindery experience is welcome but is not required. We are looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in doing a job well and is willing to learn. Familiarity with operating machinery or production equipment is an asset. We provide training on our print finishing equipment, including paper cutters, folders and stitchers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Learn to set up and operate print finishing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Read job instructions and check quantities, measurements and finishing requirements.
- Monitor production and inspect finished work for accuracy and quality.
- Troubleshoot production issues and make adjustments within your training and authorization.
- Complete routine equipment cleaning and maintenance, and report repair needs.
- Assist with packaging and other finishing tasks as needed.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Qualifications:
- Comfortable learning to operate equipment and developing an understanding of how it works.
- Experience operating machinery or production equipment is an asset.
- A practical approach to troubleshooting routine operating issues and recognizing when to ask for assistance.
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow instructions, take accurate measurements and use basic math.
- Clear communication skills and ability to work independently and with a team.
- Basic computer skills.
- Reliability, safe work habits and willingness to learn.
Physical requirements
Most of the workday is spent standing. Duties involve paper material handling and occasional lifting or moving loads of 40 pounds or more (cutter includes lift), using safe handling procedures and assistance or equipment where appropriate. Accommodation needs will be considered.
