North Middlesex University Hospital needs a Locum Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon focused on glaucoma surgery, referrals, follow-up care, and service capacity.

This consultant post supports Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust’s Glaucoma Ophthalmology service. You will help increase new referral and follow-up capacity while maintaining standards through clinical audit, evidence-based research, and appraisal. The work includes glaucoma surgery, cataract lists, rapid access clinics, virtual care, teaching, and collaboration with optometrists.

Key Responsibilities:

- Increase capacity for new glaucoma referrals and follow-ups
- Provide glaucoma shunt surgery, trabeculectomies, and MIGS
- Introduce contemporary surgical glaucoma procedures




- Review at least 20 patients per virtual clinic session
- Manage cataract surgery lists according to GIRFT recommendations

Requirements:

- Specialist interest and expertise in glaucoma ophthalmology
- Experience managing complex glaucoma patients
- Capability for advanced glaucoma surgical procedures
- Ability to review recent and follow-up patients within sessions
- Ability to support virtual glaucoma clinic delivery
