The Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS) seeks an emerging animator to join their artistic and marketing team to create a signal film for their 2026 festival of independent animation, GIRAF.

GIRAF 22 Signal Film:

The GIRAF signal film helps to define the identity of this year's GIRAF festival. The signal film will screen at festival events and online as the "calling card" of the festival, the core piece of promotional material for GIRAF as a whole.

The activities will take place over the summer and finish by August 10, 2026. Deadline to apply is Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:59PM MST.

Who can apply?

The ideal candidate is an emerging or early-career animator who has completed or is undertaking post-secondary studies In animation, visual arts, design or similar, or has comparable experience or training, with proficiency with animation and design tools such as ToonBoom, Procreate, Adobe Creative Suite, Dragon Frame, etc. The animator will bring their own style and artistic approach to the film, with the chance to grow their skills in their preferred animation medium.

Applicants must be living in Calgary-Mohkinstsis-area animators for the duration of the contract from June to August.



Expectation is to be meeting in-person multiple times throughout the week to make sure the project is delivered on time and in completion.

Funding for this job is provided by the Government of Canada's Summer Jobs Program. As a condition of this program, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment.

Applicants will be asked to submit a portfolio or samples of work along with their CV. This role requires high levels of creativity, motivation and dedication and the ability to both collaborate artistically with the QAS team, and work independently in the studio. Candidates from communities historically underrepresented In animation (women, Indigenous, racialized and LGBTQ2S+) are strongly encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Payment:

$25/hour at 30/hours a week for the duration of the contract
