Ferri (Chair, Department of Surgery) to develop a vascularized organ-on-a-chip model of gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma, investigating tumor–vasculature interactions in disease progression and therapeutic response.

The project combines microfluidic tissue engineering and vascular biology to build a human-relevant model that recapitulates the tumor microenvironment, enabling the study of angiogenesis, drug transport, and treatment response. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will be involved in several areas: (1) design, fabrication and optimization of microfluidic vascularized tumor-on-a-chip platforms modeling gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma; (2) establishment and characterization of perfusable tumor–vasculature co-cultures that reproduce key features of the tumor microenvironment; (3) development and validation of drug screening assays, including readouts of drug transport and treatment response; (4) analysis and dissemination of findings through publications and presentations.
