Shape Nova’s distributed systems and query engine as a Staff Software Engineer, optimizing performance, cost, and reliability at scale. Work spans modern OLAP infrastructure.

The company is seeking an experienced systems engineer for its in-house OLAP engine, Nova. You will work across query planning, columnar storage, distributed compute, caching, and cloud infrastructure. The role includes technical leadership, design reviews, cross-team collaboration, and mentorship for a team of approximately 10 engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

- Build Nova query execution and distributed compute infrastructure
- Design capabilities for warehouse-imported metrics, profiles, and dimensions
- Optimize compute, storage, network, memory, latency, and throughput
- Strengthen reliability, observability, capacity planning,



and rollout practices
- Lead projects, design discussions, reviews, and engineering mentorship

Requirements:

- Seven or more years in backend or infrastructure engineering
- Experience building analytical or OLAP systems
- Distributed data systems depth and robust computer science fundamentals
- Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, or equivalents
- Proficiency in Java, C++, or Python
