About Sojourn House SojournHouse provides Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing services to newly arrived refugees coming from all parts of theworld. With decades of experience and being one of the firstrefugeehousing facilities in Toronto, we take pridein being a leading organization in refugee care. Sojourn House is looking for a Custodian to join our team on a one (1) year contract to ensure the effective cleaning and custodial maintenance of our shelter facility located at 101 Ontario Street, Toronto. In this role, you will help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for residents, staff and visitors. Clean client units, including appliances, and maintain exterior areas through debris removal, snow clearing and salting as required. Operate cleaning equipment safely, follow WHMIS guidelines and ensure the proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Monitor cleaning supplies, maintain custodial storage areas and report maintenance issues, property damage or safety concerns to the Supervisor. Work collaboratively with team members, support students or volunteers during job shadowing as required, and maintain respectful interactions with residents, staff and visitors. Participate in team meetings, follow organizational policies and procedures, and perform other related duties as assigned. Community college and /or training from a recognized institution in Janitorial Service.



Minimum 3 years of experience in custodial services, preferably in a non-profit or community-based setting. Demonstrated experience using commercial cleaning equipment and knowledge of cleaning and sanitation practices. Knowledge of workplace health and safety standards, including WHMIS, safe handling of cleaning chemicals and the use of PPE. Solid attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and respond to cleaning and maintenance concerns. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercise sound judgment and maintain positive working relationships with residents, staff and visitors. This is a full-time, one (1) year contract position. The standard work week is 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. The role involves custodial duties throughout the building and exterior property, including regular standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs., with accommodation available as required. You will work in a shelter environment and use commercial cleaning products and equipment while following established health and safety procedures.
