About Kids Collab Play Café

Kids Collab Play Café is a locally owned indoor play café in Edmonton, designed to bring children, families, and communities together.

Our space combines an engaging indoor play environment for children, a welcoming café for parents and caregivers, birthday celebrations, private events, and community-focused experiences.

As we prepare to open our doors, we're looking for a motivated, dependable, and hands-on individual to join our founding team and help us build something special.

About the Position

We're seeking a Play Café Operations & Community Coordinator to support the day-to-day management, team leadership, customer experience, and business development activities of Kids Collab.

This is a dynamic, hands-on position that requires someone who can confidently balance multiple responsibilities, work independently, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

This is not a traditional desk-based management role. The successful candidate must be equally comfortable leading a team, preparing café beverages, maintaining cleanliness, supporting events, and developing community partnerships.

We're looking for someone who leads by example, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and can help keep the business running smoothly with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities1. Daily Operations & Facility Management

- Assist in overseeing daily operations of the play café.
- Ensure the facility is clean, organized, welcoming, and operating efficiently.
- Perform opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and operational checks.
- Monitor supplies, inventory, equipment, and general facility requirements.
- Maintain compliance with established health, safety, sanitation, and operating procedures.
- Respond to customer concerns and resolve operational issues professionally.
- Independently oversee daily shifts when the owners are not on-site.

2. Team Leadership & Staff Coordination

- Support the owners in supervising and coordinating a team of approximately 3–4 employees.
- Assist with staff scheduling, shift assignments, task delegation, and daily workflow.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and hands-on training to team members.
- Monitor team performance, service quality, punctuality, and adherence to operating standards.
- Help maintain a positive, respectful, accountable, and productive work environment.
- Lead by example and step into operational duties whenever required.

3. Café Operations & Customer Experience

- Prepare and serve coffee, specialty beverages, refreshments, and light café offerings.
- Operate point-of-sale systems and process customer transactions.
- Maintain café cleanliness, food preparation standards, and inventory.
- Welcome families and provide friendly, professional customer service.
- Help maintain a safe, positive,

and enjoyable play environment.
- Assist with general cleaning and sanitizing of play equipment, seating areas, washrooms, and shared spaces.

4. Community Outreach & Business Development

- Proactively identify and connect with local daycares, schools, parent groups, community organizations, and businesses.
- Promote Kids Collab's group visits, birthday parties, private bookings, and event offerings.
- Develop relationships that generate new business opportunities and repeat visits.
- Coordinate inquiries, follow-ups, and prospective group bookings.
- Support community activations, promotional initiatives, and local partnership opportunities.
- Track outreach activities, leads, confirmed bookings, and partnership opportunities.
- Work with the owners to develop initiatives that increase customer engagement and business revenue.

5. Events & Party Coordination

- Assist in organizing and executing birthday parties, private rentals, and special events.
- Coordinate event setup, guest arrivals, service requirements, and cleanup.
- Ensure events run according to schedule and meet customer expectations.
- Support the team during high-volume periods, weekends, and special bookings.

Qualifications & RequirementsRequired

- Experience working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
- Strong ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and perform effectively under pressure.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and operate with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional, dependable, punctual, and customer-service oriented.
- Comfortable working around children and interacting with parents and caregivers.
- Willingness to perform hands-on duties, including cleaning, café preparation, customer service, and general facility maintenance.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, according to business requirements.
- Reliable transportation to consistently attend scheduled shifts.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable, appropriately insured vehicle for occasional authorized off-site business activities, including community outreach, meetings, events, or supply pickups.
- Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Check as part of the hiring process.

Strongly Preferred

- Previous leadership, supervisory, or shift management experience, ideally involving a small team.
- Experience delegating responsibilities, coordinating schedules, and maintaining accountability.
- Experience in hospitality, café, restaurant, retail, recreation, or similar service-oriented operations.
- Confidence managing day-to-day operations independently when ownership is not on-site.

Additional Assets

- Barista experience or knowledge of coffee and beverage preparation.

- Experience in sales, business development, community outreach, or partnership building.
- Experience working with children, daycares, family entertainment facilities, or recreational programs.
- Experience coordinating birthday parties, events, or group bookings.
- Food safety certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Familiarity with POS systems, booking platforms, and basic inventory management.

What We're Looking For

Beyond qualifications, we're looking for someone with the right attitude and work ethic.

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

- Takes initiative without constantly being told what to do.
- Remains calm, focused, and productive during busy or stressful situations.
- Leads by example and is never above performing any task.
- Takes ownership of problems and actively works toward solutions.
- Understands the importance of cleanliness, safety, and exceptional customer service.
- Can balance operational responsibilities with opportunities to grow the business.
- Is genuinely interested in working with children, families, and the local community.
- Treats the business, customers, and fellow employees with care and respect.

We're looking for a team player with a leadership mindset — someone who can make a coffee, manage a busy shift, coordinate a birthday party, support their colleagues, and build relationships with community partners.

What We Offer

- Full-time employment with a growing, locally owned Edmonton business.
- Opportunity to be part of the founding team.
- A dynamic and engaging workplace.
- Direct involvement in business operations and community development.
- Opportunities for qualified growth and increased leadership responsibilities.
- Potential performance-based incentives tied to business development and group bookings.
- Compensation based on experience and qualifications.

Interested candidates are invited to submit:

- An updated resume outlining relevant work experience.
- A brief introduction explaining why they would be a great fit for Kids Collab.
- A summary of any previous leadership, hospitality, or business development experience.
- Their general availability, including evenings and weekends.
