About the Position

At Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville, our culinary team creates memorable moments through thoughtfully prepared food and genuine hospitality. As a First Cook, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional dining experiences across our restaurant, banquet, and catering operations. You bring passion for cooking, attention to detail, and commitment to quality, helping ensure every dish reflects our standards and enhances the guest experience.

What You'll Do

- Train and schedule employees to ensure proper coverage. Monitor performance and recommend corrective action. Alert management of potentially serious issues.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests and complaints. Make appropriate service recovery gestures according to established guidelines to ensure total guest satisfaction.
- Ensures food on the buffet or the from the kitchen has a good presentation.
- Supervises activity in outlets including restaurant, bar, and room service to ensure smooth operation and guest satisfaction.
- Inspect the restaurant daily to ensure high-quality food and food presentation and cleanliness.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to inform staff of daily events. Review daily specials.
- Ensure side work duties are complete, and tables are set before, during and after operating hours.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.




- May routinely greet guests, serve food and beverage, take reservations, and maintain reservations book if applicable.
- Always provides a professional image through appearance and dress.
- Follows company policies and procedures.
- Assist the banquet department as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

- High school diploma or equivalent and one year of food service experience in a full-service restaurant or similar setting. Some college or supervisory experience is preferred.

- Minimum three (3) years of Food & Beverage experience in a hotel, restaurant, or hospitality setting.
- Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience in food & beverage or hospitality operations.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities.
- Excellent guest service and conflict-resolution skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and service standards procedures.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience in POS – Micros, Open Table, and ADP, preferred not mandatory.

Health and Safety

- Identify, report, and assist in resolving workplace hazards to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Ensure employees follow all health and safety policies, procedures, and required personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.
- Investigate workplace incidents, complete required reports, and ensure appropriate first aid and follow-up actions are taken.
- Support health and safety initiatives through regular inspections, training, and proactive accident prevention efforts.
