Assistant Maintenance Worker

Department: Engineering/Maintenance

Reports to: Chief Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor

Job type: Full-time/Part-time

Position Summary

The Assistant Maintenance Worker helps keep the hotel’s guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems safe, clean, and in valuable working order. This role supports routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs while helping maintain a comfortable experience for guests and staff.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with routine repairs and maintenance in guest rooms, hallways, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.

- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel staff.

- Carry out basic repairs involving plumbing, electrical fixtures, lighting, doors, locks, furniture, and appliances, within the limits of training and authorization.

- Help inspect and maintain heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and other building systems.

- Complete preventive maintenance tasks and report signs of wear, damage, or potential safety issues.

- Keep tools, equipment, storage areas,



and workspaces organized and secure.

- Follow hotel procedures for work orders, maintenance records, and reporting completed tasks.

- Use ladders, tools, cleaning products, and other equipment safely.

- Follow fire, health, safety, and security procedures; report hazards or emergencies immediately.

- Communicate courteously and professionally with guests and colleagues, minimizing disruption to hotel operations.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Previous maintenance, facilities, or repair experience is an asset

- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools and common repair tasks.

- Ability to follow instructions, prioritize requests, and work independently or as part of a team.

- Good communication and customer-service skills.

- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and work in varied positions; reasonable accommodations may be available.

- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, holidays, or respond to urgent maintenance needs as required.

Working Conditions

Work takes place throughout the hotel, including guest areas, mechanical rooms, and outdoor spaces. The role may involve noise, varying temperatures, heights, and the safe handling of tools and materials.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 – 40.0 per week
