Description:
The Department of Medical Imaging at St. Michael’s Hospital (SMH) and the University of Toronto are currently recruiting a full-time, fellowship-trained, academic diagnostic neuroradiologist to join our Neuroradiology Division. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant / Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is flexible, starting from January 1, 2027.
SMH is a member of the Unity Health Toronto network and is a busy, 463-bed tertiary care and Trauma Centre and one of four principal teaching hospitals of the University of Toronto. Within the University of Toronto, our department has distinguished itself with a long history of recognized excellence in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching.
The successful candidate will join a collegial academic practice of approximately 35 radiologists that offers outstanding opportunities for career growth and supports our mission of excellent patient care, delivered in a positive and constructive work environment. We have a strong culture and history of close cooperative working and teaching relationships with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and the Trauma program. The successful candidate will join a vibrant Neuroradiology division that provides CT and MRI services supporting a strong referral base in neuro-oncology, neurology, neurovascular, spine, skull base, and general neurosurgery as well as community outpatient services. The division also supports a busy multidisciplinary neurointerventional service. The group is heavily involved in clinical activity, teaching and research, and the successful candidate will participate fully in the University of Toronto academic programs and train medical students, residents and Neuroradiology fellows. The academic position description will be assigned based on the successful candidate’s teaching and/or research strengths. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter and a team player who is comfortable interpreting all types of neuroradiological studies (x-ray, CT, MRI, brain PET, lumbar puncture and myelography). The successful candidate will have familiarity and ideally experience with quantitative MRI analysis of neuroimaging biomarkers such as DTI and perfusion imaging, pulse sequence optimization for clinical and research neuroimaging, functional imaging and neurovascular imaging techniques such as high-field vessel wall imaging. Experience and/or formal training in brain PET-CT would also be an asset. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to participate in general x-ray interpretation. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto and will integrate into multi-disciplinary clinical, education and research programs at St. Michael’s Hospital.
The successful candidate must hold an MD or equivalent, be board-certified or board-eligible in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent, and must be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a two-year RCPSC accredited fellowship in neuroradiology or equivalent experience. Successful completion of subspecialty exams is desirable.
Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The salary range of this position exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum.
Our department currently has 3 multi-detector CT scanners, and 4 recently fully upgraded MRI scanners (two 1.5T and two 3.0 T) plus a portable ultra-low field 0.064T head MRI scanner, the first clinical implementation of this technology in Canada. A new PET-CT is installed and is now funded and clinically operational and encompasses a new program in amyloid brain PET for dementia. A new additional CT scanner for the ED is planned for early 2027.
The hospital houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre that provides excellent research support and affords many opportunities for radiologists to engage in inter-departmental,
collaborative translational research in Medical Imaging. There are significant resources in support of the Department of Medical Imaging’s internationally recognized AI research work.
Review of applications will begin immediately. The position will remain open until filled or recruitment is closed.
Qualified candidates should send a cover letter, CV, and list of 3 potential references to:
