Responsibilities Tasks
- Analyze the client's eyeglasses or contact lenses and by measuring the client's eye curvature, pupillary distance and bridge width, using optical measuring devices
- Obtain specifications for eyeglasses and contact lenses from a prescription prepared by an ophthalmologist or optometrist
- Supervise or manage activities of other opticians or student opticians Assist clients in selecting eyeglasses
- Advise on use and care of contact lenses Adjust finished eyeglasses to fit client Provide customer service Train staff Order supplies and maintain inventory
- Supervision 1 to 2 people
Credentials Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
- Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities (Licensed Optician in Ontario)
- 3 years to less than 5 years in the field
