About the role
Little Break is a new Calgary babysitting service that connects busy families with vetted, trained childcare specialists. Parents book online, a specialist picks up the shift, and the family gets a few hours back.
As a Little Break Childcare Specialist, you are the person parents trust with their kids while they head to dinner, a work event, or just a quiet evening. You choose the shifts that fit your life, and we handle the bookings, the families and the payments.
What you'll do
- Provide safe, engaged care for children aged 0 to 12 in their family's home
- Follow each family's routines for meals, play, bath and bedtime
- Plan easy, age-appropriate activities like reading, crafts, games and outdoor play
- Respond calmly to everyday situations and follow Little Break's safety and emergency procedures
- Arrive on time, communicate clearly with parents, and share a short update at the end of each sit
- Keep your availability current and accept shifts through the Little Break platform
- Occasionally support Little Break events, such as Kids' Rooms at weddings and corporate events
Who we're looking for
We want warm, reliable people who are great with kids and take safety seriously. Our specialists include early childhood educators, teachers, nurses, education students and experienced sitters.
Requirements
- 16 years of age or older
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate, submitted before training starts
- Clear police information check with vulnerable sector search
- Two references, at least one from childcare or work with children
- Completion of Little Break's online training
- Reliable transportation within Calgary
- Eligible to work in Canada
Nice to have
- Early Childhood Educator certification (Level 1, 2 or 3)
- Experience with infants, multiples, or children with additional needs
- A second language
- Evening and weekend availability
Specialist tiers and pay
Pay at Little Break is set by tier, so your experience and qualifications count from your very first shift. Junior specialists (ages 16 to 17) earn $16 per hour, Core specialists (18+) earn $22 per hour, and ECE / Plus specialists (certified ECEs, nurses and teachers) earn $26 per hour. Overnight Night Care sits pay $30 to $34 per hour. Each child beyond two adds $2 per hour. Sits that run past 9 PM earn an extra $2 per hour, and our busiest nights pay an extra $5 per hour: think New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day, Halloween and holiday party season.
