Job Overview

We are currently seeking a Plant Cost Accountant for a mid size Deli Meat Manufacturing Plant located in Brampton. In this role, the individual will be responsible for providing accurate and timely manufacturing cost information, strengthening inventory and financial controls, improving visibility into production performance, and help plant management reduce costs and improve profitability.

Position Summary

The Plant Cost Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate product costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing cost reporting, and financial controls. This role works closely with Production, Operations, Procurement, Warehouse, Quality Assurance and Finance to monitor manufacturing costs analyze production performance, identify cost saving opportunities and improve overall operational profitability.

The successful candidate will have strong manufacturing cost accounting experience, an analytical mindset, and the ability to translate financial information into practical insights that support plant management decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Manufacturing and Cost Accounting

- Maintain and analyze standard costs for raw materials, packaging materials, labour and manufacturing overhead
- Monitor actual manufacturing costs against standard costs and approved budgets
- Analyze purchase price variances, material usage variances and labour variances
- Maintain accurate product cost controls, bills of materials (BOMs) and production routings in the ERP system
- Analyze product profitability and manufacturing margins by SKU, product category or production line

Inventory Control & Management





- Maintain accurate valuation of raw materials, ingredients, seasonings, packaging, work in process (WIP) and finished goods
- Coordinate and support cycle counts
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and inventory adjustments
- Reconcile inventory balances between the ERP system and warehouse records
- Review inventory adjustments, scrap, spoilage, and product disposal transactions for accuracy and proper authorizaton

Production Yield and Efficiency Analysis

- Analyze production yields, material consumption, rework and scrap
- Compare actual production output against expected yields
- Monitor key operation metrics including: Raw material yield and finished product; pounds or kilograms produced by labour hour; material and packaging waste, production downtime and rework costs
- Prepare regular reports highlighting operations inefficiencies and potential cost savings

Month End Closing and Financial Reporting

- Prepare and review monthly manufacturing cost entries, inventory adjustments, accruals and related reconciliations
- Reconcile Inventory, WIP, Production variances and manufacturing overhead accounts
- Support month-end and year-end financial closing activities
- Prepare monthly plant cost reports, variance analyses, and management summaries




- Assist with financial statement schedules, audit requests, and inventory valuation support
- Ensure manufacturing costs are recorded accurately in the correct accounting period

Budgeting and Forecasting

- Assist with the preparation of annual plant operating budget and periodic forecasts
- Monitor actual spending against budget and forecast
- Support financial modeling for recent products, production changes, equipment investments and process improvements
- Support internal and external audits

Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of accounting experience preferably in manufacturing environment
- Hands on experience with product costing, inventory accounting, manufacturing variances and month end closing
- Experience with standard costing, BOMs, production reporting and inventory reconciliations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups and data analysis
- Experience with an ERP or manufacturing accounting system
- Ability to work efficiently with both Finance and non-financial operational teams

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in food processing, meat processing, deli manufacturing or other perishable-food manufacturing environments
- CPA designation, progress towards CPA or equivalent qualified accounting qualificartion

Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
