The Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) provides critical out-of-hospital medical care, advanced life support (ALS), and emergency transportation to patients facing life-threatening medical conditions or traumatic injuries. Rates are $67.66/hr for a 12 hour day or $80.00 if Incorporated. Rotations are 14 days on/14 days off. Required for several rotations over the winter.

Role Overview:

- Respond promptly to emergency dispatch calls, high-acuity medical emergencies, and trauma scenes.
- Perform endotracheal intubation, supraglottic airway placement, needle cricothyrotomy, deep suctioning, and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.
- Perform and interpret 12-lead ECGs (including STEMI identification), execute manual defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, transcutaneous pacing, and administer advanced cardiac arrest medications.
- Establish peripheral intravenous (IV) and intraosseous (IO) lines. Calculate doses and administer a wide range of critical care medications (e.g., analgesics, sedatives, antiarrhythmics, vasopressors, bronchodilators, and thrombolytics) via various routes.
- Perform chest decompression and advanced hemorrhage control techniques (e.g., tourniquets, hemostatic dressings).
- Manage and stabilize critically ill or unstable patients during long-distance inter-facility transports between regional hospitals and specialized tertiary care units.
- Maintain detailed, legally compliant electronic Patient Care Reports (ePCRs) outlining history, vital signs, physical findings, interventions, and treatment responses.
- Communicate clinical findings directly to Central Ambulance Communications Centres (CACC), online Base Hospital Physicians, and emergency department triage staff during handover.

Requirements:

- Education: Diploma or Degree in Paramedicine from an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution,



with completion of an accredited Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) certificate/diploma program.
- Professional Registration: Active registration and valuable standing with the provincial regulatory body or College of Paramedics (e.g., College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia, Alberta College of Paramedics, Ontario Base Hospital Certification).
- Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of active practice as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) prior to ACP specialization is typically required.
- Certifications Required:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) / Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy equipment and patients (minimum 100+ lbs independently or as part of a team) on stretchers, stair chairs, and backboards.
- Environment: Exposure to variable outdoors weather conditions, controlled and uncontrolled indoor settings, high-traffic roadways, and dangerous or hazardous scenes.
