Inventory Coordinator & Staff Accountant (In-Store, Hands-On Role)

Location: Bosley’s by Pet Valu – Langley, BC

Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and motivated Inventory Coordinator & Staff Accountant to join our Bosley’s by Pet Valu store in Langley, BC.

This is primarily a hands-on, in-store inventory management position, not a traditional office or desk-based accounting job.

The role combines inventory coordination, product ordering, stock management, and accounting responsibilities.

The typical weekly workload is divided as follows:

- Approximately 80% – Inventory Management & Store Operations: Four days per week spent actively working throughout the store, checking inventory levels, reviewing product movement, placing orders, identifying stock shortages, and coordinating with store management.
- Approximately 20% – Accounting & Bookkeeping: One day per week dedicated to QuickBooks, bookkeeping, invoice processing, reconciliations, and other accounting-related responsibilities.

The successful candidate must be comfortable spending most of their working time on the retail floor, moving between aisles with a laptop, reviewing products and inventory levels, and managing the store’s ordering requirements.

We are looking for someone who enjoys a wide-ranging, active work environment and can take ownership of both inventory management and financial recordkeeping.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management & Ordering (Primary Responsibility – Approximately 80%)

- Actively walk the store floor to monitor stock levels, product availability, and replenishment needs.
- Use a laptop while working throughout the store to review inventory, identify products requiring replenishment, and prepare orders.
- Place regular inventory orders using the AGR ordering system.
- Monitor product movement, fast-selling items, low-stock products, overstock, and slow-moving inventory.
- Ensure products are ordered accurately and on time to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Identify and investigate discrepancies between physical inventory, system records, and vendor invoices.

- Coordinate with store management and employees regarding product shortages, seasonal inventory requirements, and ordering priorities.
- Help maintain accurate inventory records and improve stock control procedures.
- Assist with inventory organization, product availability, and other inventory-related store operations.
- Take initiative in identifying opportunities to improve ordering efficiency, minimize stock shortages, and reduce unnecessary inventory.

Accounting & Bookkeeping (Approximately One Day Per Week)

- Maintain accurate financial records and accounting entries using QuickBooks.
- Process, review, and verify vendor invoices.
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain payroll-related records and supporting financial documentation.
- Prepare and record journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and other adjustments as required.
- Reconcile expenses, vendor accounts, and inventory-related financial records.
- Assist with monthly and year-end accounting activities and financial reporting.
- Support management with expense tracking, financial inquiries, and recordkeeping.
- Handle confidential financial, employee, and business information professionally.

Process Improvement & Team Coordination

- Identify opportunities to improve inventory ordering, stock accuracy, bookkeeping, and overall store efficiency.
- Help develop practical systems for tracking inventory discrepancies, vendor invoices, and financial records.
- Communicate regularly with store employees, management, and ownership to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks is required.

- Experience with bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reconciliations is preferred.
- Experience with inventory ordering, stock control, retail operations, or inventory management is an asset.
- Experience in retail, grocery, pharmacy, pet retail, or other inventory-intensive businesses is an asset.
- Familiarity with inventory management software is beneficial; training will be provided on the AGR ordering system.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and numerical accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage inventory requirements, and meet ordering deadlines.
- Comfortable using a laptop and inventory systems while actively working throughout a retail store.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with employees, management, vendors, and ownership.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and accept responsibility for assigned tasks.
- Willingness to perform both inventory management and accounting duties as required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys a combination of financial recordkeeping and hands-on retail operations.

Most of your working week will be spent actively managing inventory within the store, rather than sitting at a desk.

You should enjoy walking the store floor, identifying inventory needs, placing orders, solving stock-related problems, and helping ensure the store remains properly stocked.

You should also be confident handling QuickBooks and routine accounting responsibilities for approximately one day each week.

We value reliability, initiative, accuracy, and a willingness to take ownership of the store’s inventory and ordering processes.

Important: Applicants seeking a primarily desk-based accounting position should be aware that this role is predominantly focused on active, in-store inventory coordination.

Pay: From $18.25 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 per week

Experience:

- QuickBooks: 1 year (preferred)

Location:

- Langley, BC (preferred)
