Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker / Health Care Aide - Hamilton Mountain, Hamilton - CAD$405.00/week

Description

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver to support both parents in their home in Hamilton. Mom has Alzheimer's disease that continues to progress, while Dad is experiencing cognitive decline and needs support as he transitions from being the primary caregiver.

About the Clients: Mom requires full assistance with personal care including bathing, toileting, and hygiene. She uses a walker or cane for mobility and needs supervision on stairs. She no longer initiates bathroom use and requires prompting and physical assistance. Mom responds well to music, simple tasks like sweeping or food preparation, and benefits from gentle redirection when anxious. She remains warm and loving but no longer recognizes family by name. Dad needs help with daily routines including showering, dressing, and taking medications from blister packs. He struggles with focus and memory, often staying in his robe all day without prompting. He becomes frustrated easily but responds to patient direction.

Responsibilities: Provide full personal care for Mom including bathing, toileting assistance, and hygiene support. Assist with mobility using walker or cane, especially on stairs. Prepare and serve meals for both parents, ensuring proper nutrition with available ingredients like salads, sandwiches, cut vegetables and fruit. Administer medications from blister packs for both parents. Prompt and assist Dad with daily hygiene routines and dressing.

Engage both parents in meaningful activities beyond television watching. Light housekeeping including laundry and tidying. Provide cognitive support through gentle redirection and supervision for safety. Occasional transportation for appointments or errands.

What We're Looking For: Experience with Alzheimer's and dementia care is essential. Must be patient, calm, and able to provide gentle prompting without causing frustration. Strong personal care skills including toileting assistance and bathing support. Ability to engage clients in activities and provide companionship. Takes initiative to redirect from passive television watching to meaningful engagement. Communicates clearly with family about daily observations. Reliable, consistent, and brings positive energy. English speaking required.

Schedule: Daily care needed most days of the week. Shifts are 4 hours per day. Two primary caregivers will rotate: one covering Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; another covering Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Consistency is crucial as both parents benefit from familiar faces and routines.

Both parents require consistent, patient care. Mom has progressing Alzheimer's and needs full support with toileting, bathing, dressing, and dimensional awareness when sitting. She responds well to gentle redirection, music, and straightforward tasks. Dad has cognitive decline with memory loss and anxiety - needs prompting for ADLs, medication reminders, and help staying focused. He can become frustrated but responds to calm, patient direction. Both parents are kind and non-aggressive but need supervision to prevent sitting in front of TV all day. Caregiver must be comfortable helping Mom with complete toileting assistance including wiping and cleanup, as she no longer understands the process independently. Experience with couples care and managing two clients simultaneously is essential.
