Director of Operations & Business Development

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 per year + Performance-Based Bonus

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Director of Operations & Business Development to oversee manufacturing operations, lead production teams, improve operational efficiency, and drive business growth.

This is a leadership position for a hands-on professional who can independently manage day-to-day factory operations, resolve technical and operational challenges, maintain strong customer relationships, and identify recent business opportunities.

The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager and ownership, taking responsibility for operational performance, production efficiency, profitability, and long-term business development.

Candidates must have 5–10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing or the glass industry, along with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Production Management

- Independently manage daily manufacturing and factory operations with minimal supervision from the General Manager.
- Oversee production planning, workflow, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure operational targets are met.
- Lead, supervise, and hold production staff accountable for performance, productivity, quality, and workplace safety.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Monitor production timelines, material usage, labour costs, and overall operational performance.
- Troubleshoot technical, mechanical, and operational issues to minimize downtime and maintain smooth production.
- Establish and improve standard operating procedures, production processes, and performance standards.
- Ensure products meet established quality requirements and customer specifications.

Business Development & Customer Relations

- Identify and develop new customers, sales opportunities, and potential business partnerships.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers to support retention and repeat business.




- Work with customers to understand their technical requirements, resolve concerns, and deliver effective solutions.
- Support quotation preparation, project discussions, and coordination between customers and internal production teams.
- Collaborate with management to develop strategies for increasing revenue, improving margins, and expanding the business.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the company's market position and develop new business channels.

Financial & Strategic Management

- Monitor operational costs, production expenses, and profitability.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve resource utilization, and increase overall margins.
- Evaluate operational performance and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
- Provide weekly operational and financial performance updates directly to the General Manager and ownership.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, business planning, and future expansion initiatives.
- Take ownership of operational challenges and implement practical, results-oriented solutions.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- 5–10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing operations, production management, or a similar leadership role.
- Mandatory manufacturing or glass industry experience. Candidates without relevant industry experience will not be considered.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline is required.
- Strong technical knowledge and the ability to understand manufacturing processes, equipment, production workflows, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage factory operations and lead production teams.
- Experience improving production efficiency, reducing costs, managing resources, and supporting profitability.




- Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Experience handling customer concerns and resolving operational issues effectively.
- Strong communication, leadership, and team management abilities.
- Business development experience, including identifying new customers and supporting revenue growth.
- Ability to balance hands-on operational responsibilities with strategic planning and business development.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous experience in a senior manufacturing, plant operations, or operations management position.
- Experience in glass manufacturing, glass processing, or related industrial manufacturing environments.
- Experience working directly with senior management, business owners, and customers.
- A demonstrated track record of improving operational performance and contributing to business growth.
