Growing in an ever-changing industry in Calgary, Melanson Homes & Renovations is looking for an Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis. We are looking for a creative professional who is seeking a company to grow with. As a company that was founded on the foundation of construction, process & quality, we require an individual who has a proven track record in Residential new home & renovations Estimating.

Key Responsibilities:

- Responsible for cost calculations and quantity take-offs
- Create detailed project specific specification and scope of work
- Distribute plans and bid packages to trades for pricing, receive and review quote
- Perform material take-offs from working drawings and check take-offs made by suppliers




- Cost calculations of extras and upgrades
- Review customer change order requests for pricing
- Issue Change Orders/ Credits seek approval or decline and document accordingly
- Trade research, comparison, recruitment & tendering
- Compare price increases/decreases
- Research and source new products and trades for improved quality and cost effectiveness
- Maintaining cost control with accurate and up to date pricing
- Develop strategies to create a competitive edge
- Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Perform cost comparison analysis, as requested.
- Process and approve price adjustments as required to support the Design and Sales Departments.
- Review invoices exceeding PO amounts to determine legitimacy of charges and provide corrective action to prevent future duplication of variance.
- Prepare job release to field for construction start and release job POs on a timely basis
- Review all variances between original budget and PO amounts to provide explanation and report errors
- Review trade quotes for reasonability and approval prior to PO release.
- Generate and approve purchase orders to meet time sensitive deadlines.
- Prepare budgets and POs for all change orders throughout the build process.

Required Skills and Experience

- 5+ years of experience as an Estimator




- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in related field is an asset.
- Hold a post-secondary degree or diploma in construction management, project management, estimating or other relevant disciplines will be of benefit.
- Experience in computer applications such as Excel, Word, Adobe, and Outlook are required. Buildertrend experience is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of residential construction and the ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Work independently and as part of a team on day-to-day tasks and projects
- Detail oriented and goal driven
- Exceptional mathematical ability and organizational skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a multi-faceted work environment.
- Previous experience with Job task planning, decision making and problem solving.
- Ability to work in a team and maintain quality service.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities.
- Knowledge and familiarity with local residential construction industry an asset.
- Self-motivated, proactive, clean & qualified, able to work efficiently with minimal supervision or as part of a team
- Must speak fluent English
