School Lunch Supervisor & Cook — Private Schoolhouse (Oak Bay)
Job type
Part time, Permanent (year round) Pay: $25.00/hour Schedule: Monday to Friday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. — 12.5 hours/week
Location:
Oak Bay, BC — in person (exact address shared with shortlisted candidates)
About the role
We're a family in Oak Bay looking for a warm, reliable lunch supervisor and cook for our two children (ages 7 and 9) at our home-based schoolhouse. This is a perfect role for a parent of school-aged kids, a retiree, a culinary student, or anyone wanting steady, meaningful hours that end by 1:30 p.m. You'll plan and cook healthy lunches the kids genuinely eat, share the midday break with them, and get them outside to burn off energy before afternoon lessons — then head home. It's a small, friendly, consistent environment: the same two kids, every day, all year. What your day looks like
- 11:00 – 12:00: Grocery run (2–3 days a week) and lunch prep — simple, healthy, kid-approved meals you plan and shop for within a set weekly budget
- 12:00 – 12:50: The kids' school break — serve lunch, sit and eat with them, then take them outside for fresh air and active play
- 12:50 – 1:30: Kitchen cleanup and reset, stock check, and light prep so tomorrow's lunch is easy
What you'll do
- Plan a weekly rotating menu of healthy lunches for two children
- Shop for groceries within an agreed budget; submit receipts for reimbursement
- Cook and serve lunch daily; keep mealtime calm, positive, and screen-free
- Supervise outdoor play at the schoolhouse — games,
playground time, fresh air
- Keep the kitchen clean and food-safe; flag any allergies, preferences, or concerns to the parents
- Communicate simply and reliably — a quick note or text about what was eaten and how the day went What we're looking for
- You are legally entitled to work in Canada
- 1+ year of experience cooking for and/or supervising children — nannying, school lunch programs, camps, daycare, or family cooking all count
- A valid BC driver's licence and a reliable, insured vehicle for grocery runs (mileage reimbursed at $0.73/km, the 2026 CRA rate)
- You can reliably commute to Oak Bay Monday to Friday for an 11:00 a.m. start
- Comfortable being outdoors in Victoria weather every day
- A vulnerable-sector criminal record check is required before your first day Nice to have (not required): FOODSAFE Level 1 or willingness to complete it
· First Aid/CPR certification
· experience with picky eaters or dietary needs Pay details: $25.00/hour, paid semi-monthly. Groceries reimbursed at cost with receipts against a set weekly budget. Paid sick days and statutory holiday pay as required under BC employment standards.
