Job Title: Senior Communications Strategist

Location:
Remote, Canada | Calgary ideal; Western Canada preferred Role Type: Full-time employee Compensation: $120,000+ CAD base salary + performance bonuses Company Overview Our client is a Western Canadian strategic communications, PR, and branding agency that helps businesses, governments, and leaders communicate complex ideas and build public support. The agency has served 250+ clients across North America, helped clients raise more than $400M in capital, and advised or helped elect 30+ national and provincial political leaders. Its team brings communications strategy, public affairs, design, video, web, and paid media together under one roof.

Job Description
This role is for a senior communications professional who can lead the client conversation, develop the strategy, and write the work. You’ll own approximately 7 to 12 active client accounts, working directly with founders, executives, and senior stakeholders across technology, professional services, natural resources, and government. One day, you could be turning a technical business into a clear brand story. The next, you could be developing stakeholder messaging or advising a leadership team on its communications plan. You’ll have access to writers, designers, video producers, and paid media specialists to help execute your strategy. You’ll remain hands-on with critical writing, editorial decisions, and client delivery. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading client discovery sessions, strategy presentations, and ongoing account meetings.
- Developing positioning, messaging, and communications plans tied to client objectives.
- Writing and editing press releases, op-eds, executive messaging, website copy, and video scripts.
- Translating complex technical or sensitive subjects into explicit, persuasive language.

- Briefing creative and production teams and providing specific, actionable feedback.
- Managing deadlines, approvals, and competing priorities across your accounts.
- Identifying the next client need and recommending work that earns renewals and account growth. Most initial engagements run three to four months, with opportunities to develop into ongoing communications retainers and larger projects. The Ideal Candidate You’ve held a senior role in a PR, communications, public affairs, or integrated marketing agency. Relevant titles may include Account Director, Senior Account Manager, Senior Communications Consultant, or Communications Strategist. We’re also interested in in-house communications leaders who have worked closely with media, investors, government, or other complex stakeholder groups. You bring:
- Strong writing and editorial judgment. You can share work you personally authored and explain the audience, objective, and decisions behind it.
- Clear verbal strategy. You can hear a complicated client challenge, identify the central issue, and explain your recommendation directly.
- Senior stakeholder experience. You’re comfortable advising founders, executives, boards, or public officials and moving decisions forward.
- Experience managing competing priorities. You can maintain quality across multiple accounts, deadlines, and approval processes.
- Current communications knowledge. You understand how earned, owned,

and paid media work together and use modern tools, including AI, thoughtfully.
- Commercial judgment. You recognize when a client needs additional support and can connect your recommendation to a business objective. Experience in public affairs, government relations, political campaigns, investor relations, capital markets, energy, or natural resources is a strong advantage. Applicants must bring direct experience developing communications strategy and personally writing communications materials. Sales or SaaS account management experience alone does not meet this requirement. You should be comfortable serving political and government clients across different perspectives, receiving direct feedback, and taking ownership of the work through delivery. Compensation
- Base salary starts at $120,000 CAD annually , with flexibility above that for the right senior candidate.
- Additional performance bonuses are tied to client renewals and account growth.
- Current team bonuses average approximately $15,000 CAD annually , bringing total annual compensation to approximately $135,000 CAD at the starting base . Individual bonuses vary. The Perks
- Fully remote work within Canada.
- Canadian benefits package.
- Formal training in the agency’s messaging methodology.
- Access to an integrated creative and production team.
- Opportunity to grow with the agency while working across business, public affairs, and government communications. The team operates on Mountain time, with much of its client base working Mountain and Pacific hours. Calgary is ideal, and Western Canada is strongly preferred. The hiring process includes an introductory conversation, a leadership interview, a short strategy case study for finalists, and a final conversation.
