Construction Estimator Job Overview Ace Build Contracting is seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable Construction Estimator to join our team in Mississauga, Ontario. We are looking for a skilled professional with a strong background in residential construction estimating, preferably someone who has previously worked with home builders, general contractors, or design-build companies. The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of construction materials, labour costs, project specifications, and estimating procedures. This position requires someone who can independently prepare accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates for custom homes, home additions, full home renovations, and other residential construction projects. Position Summary The Construction Estimator will be responsible for reviewing architectural drawings, assessing project requirements, preparing detailed cost estimates, and coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, and management to establish accurate project budgets. The successful candidate must have practical knowledge of residential construction methods, strong analytical skills, and the ability to identify potential costs, risks, and project requirements before construction begins. We are seeking an experienced skilled who understands the complete construction process, can confidently interpret architectural and engineering drawings, and delivers reliable estimates with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare accurate and comprehensive construction estimates.
- Review and interpret architectural drawings, structural plans, engineering documents, and project specifications.
- Complete detailed material takeoffs and calculate labour, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs.
- Develop itemized cost breakdowns, project budgets, and professional client estimates.
- Request, review, and compare quotations from suppliers, subcontractors, and trades.
- Evaluate project scope, construction requirements, and potential cost implications.
- Conduct site visits when necessary to assess existing conditions and project requirements.




- Identify missing information, discrepancies, and potential risks within project drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, engineers, and management to clarify project requirements.
- Prepare estimates for multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Monitor construction material pricing, labour rates, and market conditions to maintain competitive estimates.
- Assist with reviewing change orders, additional work requests, and project cost adjustments.
- Maintain organized estimating records, supplier quotations, and project documentation.
- Provide accurate cost information to support project planning, budgeting, and decision-making.
- Ensure all estimates reflect realistic construction costs, project specifications, and company standards.

Requirements:

- Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in construction estimating, preferably within residential construction or general contracting.
- Proven experience preparing detailed estimates for residential construction, renovations, additions, or custom home projects.
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods, building materials, labour requirements, and construction sequencing.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
- Demonstrated experience completing material takeoffs and preparing detailed cost breakdowns.
- Strong knowledge of subcontractor pricing, supplier quotations, and construction budgeting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and construction estimating software.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to estimate accuracy.

- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned estimating responsibilities.
- Professional communication skills when dealing with subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and internal team members.
- Familiarity with Ontario construction practices, building regulations, and industry standards.
- Ability to work full-time, in person, at our Mississauga office. Preferred Qualifications
- Previous estimating experience working directly with custom home builders, residential developers, or established general contracting companies.
- Strong background in residential design-build projects, home additions, and major renovations.
- Experience working with construction management teams, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code and municipal construction requirements.
- Experience using professional estimating and construction management software such as PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Buildertrend, Houzz Pro, or similar platforms.
- Established knowledge of GTA construction pricing, suppliers, and subcontractor networks.
- Experience preparing estimates at different project stages, including preliminary budgets, detailed estimates, and final construction pricing.
