About the role
The Landing is Mill Town Roasters’ Northside café—a welcoming neighbourhood space built around quality coffee, fresh food, and thoughtful hospitality. We’re looking for a hands-on General Manager who takes pride in running a great café and building a strong team. You’ll oversee daily operations, support and develop staff, and ensure our guests receive consistently warm, efficient service. This is an active role on the café floor. You’ll lead by example during busy shifts while staying organized behind the scenes, managing schedules, inventory, costs, and follow-through.

Key responsibilities
Daily operations and guest experience
- Oversee daily café operations, ensuring smooth service from opening to closing.
- Work alongside the team, stepping into service and supporting busy periods as needed.
- Maintain consistent standards for coffee, food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and hospitality.
- Handle guest questions and concerns professionally, resolving issues with care.
- Keep the café welcoming, organized, and ready for service.
- Identify equipment or maintenance concerns and coordinate timely follow-up. Team leadership
- Recruit, onboard, train, and coach café staff in collaboration with leadership.
- Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable through consistent, respectful feedback.
- Build a positive workplace where staff communicate well, support one another,



and take pride in their work.
- Prepare schedules that balance business needs, staff availability, and labour targets.
- Manage shift coverage, delegate responsibilities, and ensure daily and weekly tasks are completed.
- Develop team members’ skills in coffee preparation, food service, and guest care. Business performance and inventory
- Monitor sales, labour costs, food costs, and waste, taking practical steps to meet business targets.
- Manage ordering, stock rotation, and inventory levels to maintain availability and reduce spoilage.
- Oversee cash handling, daily reconciliation, and accurate reporting.
- Communicate staffing needs, operational concerns, and performance updates to leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, increase sales, and strengthen the guest experience. Standards and communication
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
- Ensure staff understand and follow company policies and operating procedures.
- Coordinate with the roasting, baking, and leadership teams on product needs and availability.
- Support seasonal offerings, promotions, and new product launches.

- Experience managing or supervising a café, restaurant, or hospitality team.
- A confident, approachable leadership style with the ability to coach staff and address concerns directly.
- Strong organization, communication, and time-management skills.
- An understanding of scheduling, inventory, ordering, and cost control.
- A genuine interest in specialty coffee, quality food, and hospitality.
- The ability to stay calm, make decisions, and support the team during busy service.
- A dependable approach, strong follow-through, and attention to detail.
- Availability for early mornings, weekends, and occasional holidays as required.
- Food safety certification, or willingness to obtain it. Specialty coffee and barista experience are strong assets. What success looks like The Landing runs smoothly, guests feel welcomed, and staff understand what is expected of them. Product quality and service remain consistent, costs are managed thoughtfully, and the team feels supported and accountable. The General Manager takes ownership of the café’s day-to-day performance and keeps leadership informed.
