Your Role As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support the Executive Chef with the Home for Dinner meal program, help manage daily kitchen operations, guide and support kitchen volunteers, and maintain high standards of food preparation and presentation. This is a casual position based at the Calgary Ronald McDonald House. Shifts are from 3:30–8:00 p.m. on variable days, based on operational needs. Key Responsibilities
- Support the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations, including menu planning, inventory control, safety, sanitation, and volunteer management.
- Train, mentor, and supervise kitchen personnel and volunteers to maintain high standards of food quality and safety.
- Prepare and cook food according to recipes and menu specifications, monitoring quality, consistency, and presentation during preparation and service.




- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards throughout the kitchen.
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu items and seasonal offerings.
- Address kitchen issues and concerns promptly and effectively.
- Provide orientation, day-of assistance, and stewardship to local Home for Dinner groups in the absence of the Executive Chef.
- Assist the Executive Chef with stocking the Grab & Go Fridge and Family Kitchen.
- Complete daily kitchen closing duties, including washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing sinks and counters, sweeping and mopping floors, and taking out garbage.
- Complete required daily documentation and other tasks as required. Required Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience in a professional kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to work in a rapid-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Passion for food and a commitment to quality.
- Must provide a clear criminal record. Nice to Haves
- Advanced Food Safe Certification, HACCP, Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED certification.
- Experience in a healthcare setting.
