Western Pacific Marine is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and motivated Relief Deckhand to join our marine operations team on the Kootenay Lake Ferry. As an integral member of the vessel crew, the successful candidate will support the safe and efficient operation of our ferry service while helping ensure a positive and welcoming experience for passengers. Working closely with the Captain and fellow crew members, the Deckhand will assist with vessel operations, passenger safety, docking and mooring procedures, general vessel maintenance, and daily operational duties. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, customer service, and the ability to work in a agile marine environment. Duties:
- Direct vehicles and passengers during loading and unloading, ensuring safe, efficient, and courteous operations.
- Assist with vessel berthing and unberthing, including handling mooring lines and operating ramps, pontoons, and terminal equipment.
- Perform helmsman and lookout duties as assigned, following the Captain's instructions and maintaining safe vessel operations.
- Monitor passenger safety, maintain order and security onboard, and provide professional and courteous customer service.
- Perform general vessel and terminal maintenance, including cleaning, painting, washing, and snow and ice removal.
- Participate and be able to operate all equipment used in the following drills: fire, lifeboat/life raft, anchor and emergency.
- Assists in maintaining good order and discipline while transporting passengers including carrying out security patrols.

Qualifications:

- Must hold a valid Marine Emergency Duties (M.




E.
D.) certificate.
- Ability to follow instructions and comply with vessel operating procedures and safety regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a safety-focused marine environment.
- Ability to perform physical duties associated with vessel operations, including handling mooring lines, maintaining equipment, and general vessel maintenance.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong awareness of workplace safety, emergency procedures, and hazard identification.
