Shape satellite communications research with MDA Space and Safran Trusted 4D through SAPPHIRE’s integrated PNT architecture.
ÉTS seeks a postdoctoral fellow for a full-time, four-year position in downtown Montreal, starting as soon as possible. Within LASSENA and the SAPPHIRE partnership, you will develop PNT capabilities for MDA Space’s Aurora LEO constellation. The research integrates broadband DVB-S2X, Direct-to-Device links, and 5G/6G Non-Terrestrial Networks. Work includes constellation simulators, SDR platforms, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and validation toward TRL 5. The role also addresses GNSS-free navigation, passive radar, and spectrum anomaly detection for emergency-management scenarios.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design communication waveforms and frames embedding synchronization markers
- Develop multi-source positioning and timing estimation algorithms
- Contribute to hybrid multi-protocol SDR receiver design
- Define QoS frameworks for latency, accuracy, continuity, and integrity
- Guide TRL transitions and coordinate partner technical reviews
Requirements:
- Recent Ph.D. in electrical, telecommunications, aerospace, or related engineering
- Expertise in at least two specified PNT or communications areas
- Experience with USRP, GNU Radio, or comparable SDR platforms
- Programming skills in Python, MATLAB/Simulink, C, or C++
- Publication record and scientific collaboration experience
Bring satellite communications, SDR validation, waveform design, and PNT expertise to ÉTS’s cooperative SAPPHIRE project.
