CAC Metal Recycling Inc. is part of CAC Industrials, a family-owned scrap metal recycler serving the Greater Edmonton area from its yard in Acheson, Alberta. CAC has operated since 1999, buying ferrous and non-ferrous metals, supplying roll-off bins and providing demolition and site clean-up. Cancor Metal Recycling holds SECOR (Small Employer Certificate of Recognition) and works to strong safety and environmental standards.
WHY THIS ROLE
CAC Metal Recycling is hiring a Non-Ferrous Metal Equipment Operator for its Acheson yard, an entry to mid-level labour and operator role. You will sort, grade and process copper, brass, aluminum, stainless steel and other non-ferrous metals, and run the yard equipment that gets the job done. This is a year-round, full-time role with reliable hours for someone who takes pride in accurate work, finishes what they start and can keep a good pace without being watched.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Grade and sort accurately. Identify copper, brass, aluminum, stainless, alloys and motors and keep each grade clean and separate.
• Control contamination. Strip, clean and inspect material so it meets the buyer's specification.
• Operate yard equipment. Run assigned equipment safely and independently, including loading and unloading bins and containers.
• Screen incoming material. Check loads for hazardous items and report anything unusual right away.
• Keep good records. Record weights, grades and bin IDs the same shift.
• Finish your work. Complete tasks to the end, hand over what is not done, and leave your area clean and ready.
WHAT YOU BRING
• Hands-on non-ferrous experience is an asset; entry-level to mid-level candidates with related shop, trade, warehouse or industrial experience are welcome
• Ability to learn and apply grade specifications accurately
• A safety-first approach and willingness to follow procedures every shift
• Dependability: on time, every scheduled shift, and clear communication when something comes up
• Ability to work independently and keep a steady pace
• Basic computer skills and the ability to read and follow instructions
• Readiness for physical, outdoor yard work in all Alberta weather
• Report fit for duty, free from impairment by alcohol, cannabis, drugs or fatigue, and meet customer site access requirements, including drug and alcohol testing where a site requires it.
GREAT TO HAVE
• Equipment operation in a Scrap yard, electrical, mechanical or HVAC environment
• Experience with material handlers, forklifts or loaders
• Experience stripping motors or equipment
• WHMIS or first aid training
WHAT YOU GET
• $24 to $27 per hour, based on experience
• Paid overtime is a benefit of the position: shifts often run 30 minutes to 1 hour past the scheduled finish
• Group benefits after a 3-month probation period
• Year-round work, Monday to Friday
• Training on grading and equipment, with a path to higher pay as you gain verified skills
HOW WE HIRE
Phone screen, in-person interview with a practical grading exercise, reference checks, and offer. We check references with your most recent supervisors, and we pay attention to how you finish jobs, work safely and take feedback.
