Maintenance Technician
For the mechanically minded, the naturally curious, and the people who love figuring out how things work.
Are you the person everyone calls when something breaks, stops working, or just isn’t working the way it should? Do you enjoy troubleshooting, fixing things, and finding smarter ways to get the job done?
We’re looking for a reliable, hands-on, mechanically inclined problem-solver to join our property maintenance team as a Maintenance Technician at a large private residential estate. This exceptionally resourceful individual will assist our Maintenance Manager, helping keep a large private estate and affiliated properties, its equipment, vehicles, and extensive amenities operating at their best.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and gets genuine satisfaction from solving problems. One day you might be troubleshooting a mechanical issue, the next you could be maintaining a vehicle or watercraft, working with contractors on a project, or helping keep the property’s extensive outdoor amenities in top condition.
You don’t need to know everything. You do need to be curious, resourceful, safety-conscious, meticulous, and confident rolling up your sleeves to figure things out.
If you have a practical mindset, a mechanical aptitude, and a knack for finding solutions when others see problems, we’d like to hear from you.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $65,000–$85,000 per year, depending on education, experience, technical skills, and demonstrated capabilities.
This is a full-time opportunity offering:
- Competitive annual salary based on your experience and practical abilities.
- Health and dental benefits.
- A company-provided cell phone.
- A varied, hands-on role where mechanical aptitude, initiative, and creative problem-solving are valued.
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys tackling new challenges, and wants to put their practical skills to use in a role where their contribution makes a real difference.
The Prospect
Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, you’ll help oversee the day-to-day upkeep, maintenance, and smooth operation of a substantial private residence, its grounds and affiliated properties.
You’ll work across a wide range of systems, equipment, vehicles, buildings, and outdoor amenities. This is a role for someone who enjoys being hands-on, thinking independently, spotting potential issues before they become bigger problems, and taking ownership of getting things done right.
You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute ideas, improve maintenance practices, and help find practical solutions to the unique challenges that come with maintaining a complex property.
What You’ll Be Doing
Troubleshooting, Maintenance & Mechanical Systems
- Assist with the inspection, monitoring, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of residential systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, gas, and IT-related equipment.
- Help identify issues early, investigate their causes, and find practical solutions to keep systems operating reliably.
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs throughout the property, including interior and exterior building finishes, fixtures, and structures.
- Help maintain tools, equipment, supplies,
and spare parts so the right resources are available when needed.
- Look for opportunities to improve maintenance routines, solve recurring problems, and keep the property operating efficiently.
Vehicles, Watercraft & Equipment
- Assist with routine care and maintenance of the vehicle fleet and watercrafts.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance, including checking fluids and tires, washing, and detailing.
- Coordinate scheduled servicing, dealership visits, and third-party detailing services.
- Take pride in keeping vehicles, equipment, and related storage areas clean, organized, and ready for use.
Property, Grounds & Outdoor Amenities
- Work alongside the landscape and hardscape teams to maintain the property's exterior spaces and amenities.
- Help maintain pools, water features, docks, tennis courts, decks, patios, outdoor furniture, and bars.
- Assist with projects, coordinate with outside contractors, and help ensure work is completed safely and to the expected standard.
- Pitch in wherever your practical skills and problem-solving ability can make a difference.
Teamwork, Planning & Responsibility
- Provide day-to-day support to the Maintenance Manager and step into a leadership role in their absence.
- Help plan and carry out routine and preventative maintenance activities.
- Assist with procurement, inventory management, tool organization, and maintenance records using digital tools and preventative maintenance software.
- Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation, typically no more than once per month. After-hours emergencies and callouts are uncommon.
- Work with the Maintenance Manager and Estate Manager to respond to emergencies and keep the residence running smoothly.
- Assist with special events and other property needs when required.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re more interested in your practical ability, attitude, and approach to solving problems than in a particular job title.
You might be a tradesperson, mechanic, maintenance technician, building operator, equipment enthusiast, or a naturally handy individual who has developed strong mechanical skills through work and personal projects.
You’re likely a great fit if you:
- Think mechanically. You enjoy understanding how things work and can often identify why something isn't working as it should.
- Love solving problems. You’re resourceful, methodical, and able to think on your feet when unexpected issues arise.
- Take initiative. You notice what needs attention, investigate the issue, and look for solutions rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Enjoy variety. You prefer a role that gets you moving, thinking, building, fixing, and working across different systems rather than doing the same task every day.
- Take pride in quality. You do things properly, pay attention to detail, and leave your work area clean and organized.
- Are comfortable working with your hands. You enjoy practical work and have the physical ability to handle the demands of the role safely.
- Work well with others. You can collaborate with a team, communicate with contractors, and work independently when needed.
- Are willing to learn. You may not have every skill today, but you’re curious, adaptable, and eager to expand your knowledge.
Skills & Requirements
- Experience in one or more skilled trades, mechanical work, construction, engineering, building maintenance, or a related hands-on field is an asset, although not required.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience with general maintenance, troubleshooting, and practical problem-solving.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety; previous safety training is an advantage.
- Comfortable with basic technology, including email, messaging, word processing, and digital preventative maintenance systems.
- A valid driver's licence and a clean driving record. Experience driving a manual-transmission vehicle is an advantage.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stretching, and performing hands-on maintenance tasks.
- Comfortable working on ladders and scaffolding and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to perform general cleaning, tidying, and cleanup tasks as part of maintaining a high standard throughout the property.
- A neat, professional appearance and organized work habits.
- Willingness to assist with special events and other duties necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the residence.
- Ability to successfully complete a thorough background check and provide excellent professional references.
- A track record of reliability, accountability, and stability in previous employment.
Schedule & Availability
The general schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some scheduled weekend work during the summer months and greater flexibility required when the homeowners are in residence, particularly in summer and fall.
- Participation in a scheduled 24-hour on-call rotation is required in a minimal capacity.
- Evening callouts are uncommon but may occasionally be necessary.
- Flexibility to schedule vacation during the winter and spring, when the homeowners are typically away, is expected.
- Living within approximately a 20-minute drive of the property is required, with closer proximity preferred due to on-call responsibilities.
- Must have own vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to put your practical skills and mechanical curiosity to work in an environment where no two days need to be the same.
You’ll encounter a wide variety of systems, equipment, and maintenance challenges, work alongside an experienced Maintenance Manager, and have a direct hand in keeping a substantial property operating at its best.
For the right person, the satisfaction comes from more than completing a checklist. It’s about understanding the problem, finding the solution, doing the job right, and knowing the result of your work makes a difference.
If you’re mechanically minded, naturally curious, and the kind of person who enjoys figuring things out, fixing what others can’t, and taking pride in a job well done, we encourage you to apply.
