Job Summary

We are seeking an energetic, supportive, and student-centered Part-Time Physical Education and Health Teacher to teach students from Secondary I to Secondary V at our English-language private school in Québec for the 2027–2028 school year.

The successful candidate will create a positive physical education environment that encourages students to develop healthy habits, physical literacy, teamwork, confidence, and an appreciation for lifelong physical activity.

Working within the Québec Education Program (QEP) and the applicable Progression of Learning (POL), the teacher will plan engaging and developmentally appropriate activities that support students' physical, social, and personal development.

We are looking for an educator who recognizes that physical education is about more than athletic performance. The ideal candidate will encourage participation, personal improvement, healthy lifestyles, cooperation, and respect while ensuring that students of different abilities feel included and supported.

For a candidate with the appropriate experience and interest, there may also be an opportunity to help develop and lead the school's sports and athletics program. This could include organizing school teams, recreational and competitive sports opportunities, intramural activities, training programs, and other initiatives that promote student participation in athletics.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum and Instruction

- Plan and deliver Physical Education and Health courses for students in Secondary I–V in accordance with the Québec Education Program and Progression of Learning.
- Develop students' physical competencies through a variety of individual, team, recreational, and fitness-based activities.
- Teach fundamental movement skills, physical fitness, teamwork, cooperation, strategy, and safe participation in physical activity.
- Promote healthy lifestyle habits and help students understand the relationship between physical activity, health, and overall well-being.
- Provide opportunities for students to participate in a variety of sports and physical activities while emphasizing personal improvement rather than athletic ability alone.
- Adapt activities to accommodate different levels of physical ability, experience, confidence, and individual student needs.
- Teach students appropriate warm-up, conditioning, injury-prevention, and protected physical activity practices.
- Encourage sportsmanship, leadership, perseverance, cooperation, and respect.

Student Assessment and Support

- Assess student learning and progress in accordance with the competencies and evaluation requirements of the Québec Physical Education and Health program.
- Use a variety of assessment methods to evaluate participation, skill development, personal progress, cooperation, and understanding of health-related concepts.

- Establish clear and achievable expectations for students while recognizing individual abilities and progress.
- Provide constructive feedback that encourages students to develop confidence and improve their physical competencies.
- Collaborate with resource teachers, administrators, and families to implement individualized education plans (IEPs), accommodations, or modifications when appropriate.
- Adapt physical activities for students with disabilities, injuries, health considerations, or other individual needs.

Safety and Classroom Management

- Maintain a safe, structured, respectful, and inclusive environment during all physical education activities.
- Establish and consistently reinforce safety expectations for gymnasium, outdoor, and recreational activities.
- Inspect equipment and activity areas and report safety concerns when necessary.
- Ensure that equipment is used appropriately and stored safely.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of students during physical education classes and activities.
- Respond appropriately to injuries or emergencies and follow established school safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and student progress.

Sports Program Development – Potential Prospect

Depending on the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and availability, there may be an opportunity to take a leadership role in developing the school's sports and athletics program.

Responsibilities may include:

- Helping establish and grow a structured secondary school sports program.
- Developing school teams based on student interest and available facilities.
- Coaching or coordinating coaches for selected sports.
- Organizing practices, intramural activities, tournaments, and athletic events.
- Exploring opportunities for friendly games, competitions, and partnerships with other schools or community organizations.
- Encouraging broad student participation in athletics, including opportunities for students who may not traditionally participate in competitive sports.
- Promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, commitment, and school spirit.
- Working with school administration to develop the athletics program gradually as the school grows.

Experience in coaching, athletic program development, or sports leadership would therefore be considered a strong asset.

School Community and Collaboration

- Collaborate with colleagues to support student wellness, school spirit, and whole-school initiatives.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress when appropriate.
- Participate in relevant staff meetings,

professional development activities, and school initiatives.
- Where applicable, assist with recreational activities, intramural programs, school events, or other physical activity initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education, or a related field, with appropriate teacher training.
- A valid Québec teaching authorization: brevet d'enseignement.
- Knowledge of physical education, fitness, health, and age-appropriate physical development.
- Ability to teach in English within an English-language educational environment.
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create an inclusive environment for students with varying levels of athletic ability and physical confidence.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of student safety and supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with the Québec Education Program and Progression of Learning for Physical Education and Health.
- Experience coaching school or community sports.
- Experience developing or coordinating athletic, intramural, or extracurricular sports programs.
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, physical limitations, or other diverse learning needs.
- Experience adapting physical activities to support students with different abilities and needs.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and an interest in helping build a growing school athletics program.

Our School Environment

We offer a collaborative school setting where teachers are encouraged to build meaningful relationships with students and contribute to their academic, social, emotional, and physical development.

Our small class sizes allow teachers to provide individualized encouragement and create an environment where students of all athletic abilities can participate, improve, and develop confidence.

We believe Physical Education and Health should help students develop habits that extend beyond the gymnasium. Our goal is to help students understand the importance of movement, health, teamwork, perseverance, and lifelong physical activity.

As our school grows, we are also interested in expanding opportunities for school athletics, team sports, intramurals, and competitive or recreational programming. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to play a significant role in shaping this aspect of our school community.

We welcome applications from qualified educators who are passionate about physical education and interested in helping build a strong, inclusive, and engaging athletics culture for our secondary students.
