Position Summary

PineCrest Environmental is seeking a Junior/Intermediate Environmental Scientist to support reclamation, remediation, spill response, assessment, monitoring, field programs, and technical reporting for projects throughout Alberta, with potential support for select projects in BC.

This role is intended for an environmental professional with approximately 2–5 years of consulting experience, strong field skills, sound technical judgement, and practical experience supporting soil, vegetation, groundwater, reclamation, assessment and remediation projects.

Responsibilities

- Application of current regulatory guidelines and criteria, specifically the Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines and the 2010 Reclamation Criteria for Wellsites and Associated Facilities under the direction of project managers and senior technical staff.
- Complete field programs for reclamation, remediation, and environmental assessment projects, including but not limited to soil sampling, groundwater monitoring support, vegetation observations, site inspections, photo documentation, GPS/GIS data collection, and field notes.
- Support Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, detailed site assessments, remediation programs, reclamation assessments, vegetation and weed inspections, and construction or spill response monitoring.
- Prepare field summaries, data tables, figures, site sketches, inspection forms, remediation summaries, reclamation documentation, and technical report sections with senior review as required.
- Coordinate professionally with clients, contractors, landowners, laboratories, regulators, and internal project teams.
- Support project planning, health and safety documentation, equipment preparation, sample handling, data management, QA/QC, and timely completion of deliverables.
- Work independently or within a team environment and the ability to make responsible decisions with the support and mentoring of senior staff.

Qualifications





- A degree or diploma in environmental science, environmental technology, soil science, biology, ecology, natural resource management, or a related field.
- 2 to 5 years of environmental consulting experience, preferably with reclamation, remediation, environmental site assessment, soil sampling, and groundwater monitoring experience in Alberta.
- Professional designation, or eligibility for designation, with a relevant Alberta association is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting Phase I/II ESAs, remediation programs, reclamation assessments, vegetation monitoring, weed inspections, or compliance monitoring is preferred.
- Strong field documentation, data management, technical writing, QA/QC, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to complete fieldwork, travel, and seasonal work as required.

Hours & Compensation

- Full-time junior/intermediate technical position with salary and benefits based on experience, education, field capability, designation or eligibility, technical writing, and client service skills.
- The role includes office, field, client-facing, and project support responsibilities, with seasonal fieldwork and travel expected during busy project periods.
