Personal Support Worker - Maidstone Ave, Essex - CAD$270.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 89-year-old woman living independently in her bungalow in Essex, Ontario. She has recently experienced a decline in mobility due to two fractured vertebrae and is dealing with memory challenges and iron deficiency anemia. Despite these setbacks, she remains determined to age in place with dignity. Her family is deeply involved and supportive, visiting regularly to ensure her comfort and safety. She's a sweet, good-natured person who enjoys getting out for drives and errands when able, though she's currently frustrated with her body's limitations.
Responsibilities:
Morning visits include helping her prepare for the day, assisting with breakfast, medication reminders from blister packs, light housekeeping tasks such as dishes and laundry, and ensuring she's comfortable and safe. Evening visits involve similar support—preparing or reheating meals, administering evening medications, light tidying, and settling her in for the night. Assistance with showering using her walk-in shower with seat may be needed. Support with mobility using her walker is essential, as she's currently uncomfortable walking independently. Transportation to medical appointments and errands using her PT Cruiser (you'll be added as an occasional driver to her insurance) is required. Memory prompts and redirection are important, as her recall can be inconsistent—she may forget whether she's eaten or taken medications.
What We're Looking For:
A reliable, patient caregiver who can provide consistent morning and evening support. Someone calm and understanding who can help her feel comfortable and respected while managing her frustration with her current limitations. Experience with mobility assistance, personal care, medication management, and memory care is essential.
A valid driver's license is required for transportation needs. Solid communication skills with both the client and her family are important, as they want to stay informed about her daily wellbeing.
Schedule:
Two visits daily, morning and evening, five days per week (potentially seven depending on family availability). Each visit is approximately two hours. Start time flexible based on caregiver availability—could be 8 AM or 10 AM for morning visits. The family handles midday check-ins. Consistency with the same caregiver for morning and evening shifts is strongly preferred to help her feel secure and maintain routine.
