About SOTA Tutoring

SOTA Tutoring is a North Vancouver tutoring company working one-on-one with students in Grades 7 to 12. Sessions are held in person at Lynn Valley Library, with some online. Every student starts with an initial assessment, gets a learning plan built around their actual gaps and school curriculum, and is tutored by the same person each week.

SOTA was started by a UBC graduate and has grown from seven years of tutoring families on the North Shore. We are a small team and we are hiring because demand for senior math and science has outgrown our current tutors.

The role

We need tutors who are confident teaching both Pre-Calculus 11 and Pre-Calculus 12, plus at least one senior science (Chemistry, Physics, or Biology 11/12). Applicants who only cover math or only cover science will not be considered for this role.

- Tutor students one-on-one, in person in Lynn Valley
- Run initial assessments and teach to each student's learning plan and current school units
- Focus on understanding, not just getting homework done
- Write short session notes that feed into monthly progress reports
- Arrive 15 minutes before sessions and keep the same weekly schedule through the term

All scheduling, billing, and parent communication is handled by SOTA. You will not be finding clients or chasing payments.

What we are looking for

- Current university student or graduate in science, engineering, math, or a related field




- A or A+ in the courses you would tutor
- Able to get to Lynn Valley reliably on weekday afternoons and evenings
- Availability you can commit to through the end of the term
- Honest about your range. Tell us what you would and would not teach. No one is placed in a course they are not confident in.

Pay and hours

- $30–$40 per hour for one-on-one sessions
- Weekday afternoons and evenings (3:30–8:30pm), with weekend sessions available
- Students are booked into fixed weekly slots, so your hours stay consistent once your schedule fills

How to apply

- The specific senior courses you are confident teaching, for example Pre-Calculus 12 or Chemistry 11
- Two or three sentences about one student you helped: what they were stuck on, and what changed. If you have not tutored formally, helping a classmate, a sibling, or a lab section you demonstrated all count.
- Your weekday availability between 3:30 and 8:30pm

Shortlisted applicants will be asked for an unofficial transcript.

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 – 20.0 per week
