Junior Line Cook — Nool | Mexican Soul
Danforth Ave, Toronto · Full-time · $20.00–$24.00/hour
About us
Nool — Mexican Soul is a new, small-format Mexican kitchen opening on the Danforth. The cooking is rooted in home-style food — mole, dried chiles, salsas — Around 25 seats, a focused menu, and a kitchen where standards matter more than volume.
The role
We're looking for a junior chef who wants to get seriously positive at this craft. You don't need years of experience — you need solid fundamentals, respect for the product, and the discipline to hold a standard when the room is full.
This is a small kitchen, which means two things: you'll touch every part of it, and there's nowhere to hide. If you want to learn quickly and be trusted with real responsibility early, this is the right place for you.
What you'll do
- Run your station through lunch and dinner service — prep, execution, and plating to spec
- Handle proteins, beef in particular, with care and precision. You'll be taught what each cut costs us and you'll be expected to treat it accordingly: correct portioning, correct trim, correct storage, minimal waste
- Apply food safety standards without being reminded — temperatures, labelling and dating, rotation, cooling procedures, cross-contamination control
- Keep your station and the kitchen clean and organized throughout service and at close
- Report stock levels, shortages,
and prep needs to the Head Chef daily
- Make sound decisions under pressure and work cleanly alongside the rest of the team
What we're looking for
- Previous line cook experience in a professional kitchen
- Solid grasp of basic cooking techniques — knife skills, temperature control, seasoning, sauces, grilling and sautéing
- Food Handler Certification, or willingness to complete it before your first shift
- Genuine interest in Mexican cuisine. Experience in a Mexican kitchen is an asset but not required — curiosity and willingness to learn matter more
- Professionalism and reliability: on time, in uniform, ready to work
- Availability on weekends and holidays
What we offer
- $20.00–$24.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill
- Uniform provided
- Free or discounted staff meals
- Real training. You'll work across a range of techniques and cuisines, not only Mexican — this kitchen draws on methods well outside the Mexican canon, and if you're hungry to learn you'll leave a much stronger cook than you arrived
Schedule
- Full-time
- Shifts fall within a 1:00pm–9:00pm window, minimum 6 hours per day
- Weekend and holiday availability required
- Start date Oct 23
Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Discounted or free food
- Flexible schedule
Work Location: In person
