Overview

Ummah Society is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Senior Accountant to lead and support overseeing all financial operations of the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, supporting audits, managing compliance with funding requirements, and ensuring adherence to accounting standards for nonprofit (ASNPO). The Senior Accountant will play a key role in financial planning and decision-making that supports Ummah Society’s mission and growth.

Duties

● Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

● Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.

● Develop and monitor budgets in collaboration with program leads and executive

management.

● Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost efficiencies.

● Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, CRA regulations, and funder

reporting requirements.

● Prepare year-end working papers and liaise with external auditors during audits and reviews.

● Maintain accurate records for HST, payroll remittances, and charitable reporting.

● Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable,



and payroll functions.

● Review and approve journal entries, bank reconciliations, and expense reports.

● Reconcile grant funding and monitor fund allocations for restricted and unrestricted funds.

● Supervise junior accounting staff or volunteers, if applicable.

● Assist in implementing accounting software and process improvements.

● Provide financial analysis to support strategic planning and grant applications.

Requirements

● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).

● 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

● Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Sage, or equivalent).

● Robust understanding of fund accounting and nonprofit reporting requirements.

● Excellent Excel skills and data analysis capability.

● Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

● High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and integrity.

Pay: $47,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
